Rovio Entertainment, the creator of the globally successful Angry Birds brand, announced today at the International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada plans to grow their licensing business.
Rovio created an e-commerce store and started their merchandise program before Angry Birds was even popular. Shirts, hats & plush toys are amazing brand marketing tools that allow a game publisher to directly connect with current and potential fans outside of the game. In 2012 Rovio generated $87 million in sales from merchandise alone and they have been the games category leader in proving that an e-comm storefront with great merchandise will only help a games success.
In 2013 Rovio will be heavily concentrating on strengthening its strategic brand management, brand and retail marketing, and licensing operations. In addition to announcing the expanded strategic licensing agreement with Hasbro Inc. earlier on Monday 17 June, Rovio Entertainment has entered into partnerships with other key players in the licensing business. These new partners will complement Rovio’s existing partner base of over 500 companies.
