The shortened work week may be over, and while a full five days might seem like a bit of a downer, it's just another opportunity to get involved in the LA tech community. Here are five events we're excited about this week.

Build a game with JavaScript, July 11 at 6:30 p.m.

If you're looking for a fun way to learn how to code, the Cross Campus in Santa Monica is hosting an event this Tuesday night to teach attendees how to build a game using JavaScript. Experts will be on hand to show off the power of JavaScript by informing participants how to make a simple guessing game. All you need is a laptop and, ideally, a basic understanding of HTML and CSS, though that isn't mandatory.

CTRL Alt Think Presented by Jack Daniels, CTRL Collective, and Launch Party, July 12 at 6:35 p.m.

CTRL Collective has partnered with Jack Daniels — yes, that Jack Daniels — to create a monthly educational event designed to bring together a panel of experts to discuss the modern business landscape and branding. Hosted at CTRL Collective DTLA, the event will feature panel discussions, VR experiences and refreshments, provided by JD himself.

Summer Social @ Everson Royce Bar, July 12 at 6:30 p.m.

The Fourth of July is over, but summertime means ample opportunities to keep the party going. Head down to the Arts District this Wednesday for an event hosted by LA Tech4Good at the picturesque Everson Royce Bar for some good old fashioned tech networking.

SiliconBeach DTLA Networking Mixer, hosted by Google, July 13 at 6 p.m.

Google continues its push into LA with another event in its series of Silicon Beach mixers, hosted this week in DTLA. The event is hosted at the Omni Hotel and will feature a VR lounge, tech displays and cocktails.

AT&T SHAPE, July 14 to 15 at 3 p.m.

One of the most anticipated tech conferences starts this Friday at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank. AT&T Shape will explore the convergence of technology and entertainment, something very relevant here in LA. The event will feature expert speakers, interactive demos, hands-on creation activities, and the winners of this weekend's AT&T SHAPE Hackathon will also be announced.

Have a great week, and be sure to check out our events calendar for more LA tech events!
