There is perhaps no city in the U.S. with more neighborhood competition than Los Angeles. From the best restaurants to the best places to live, everyone has a strong preference in LA.

When it comes to the best startup areas in LA, we put aside the objective argument and broke down the facts. From September 2014 to September 2015, we've aggregated every funding in the city to reveal the 10 most well-funded zip codes in Los Angeles.

With well over 200 fundings totaling more than $3 billion dollars, LA has had a record setting year. Tech giants like Snapchat, NantHealth, Honest Co., and Chrome River took in hundreds of millions in funding and, in doing so, played a huge role in our zip code rankings.

In 2014's list, Santa Monica (90401) took the top spot in the rankings with $150,594,000. To put the current year in perspective, that would have landed them in fifth place in this year's rankings.

Venice (90291) ran away with the number one spot this year with close to $1.2 billion in funding. But of course, the outlier of the neighborhood —and entire city— was Snapchat. With $1.02 billion alone, Evan Spiegel's company won the MVP award, totaling more than the next four zip codes combined.

Culver City (90230) wasn't even featured in the top 10 last year and made a massive jump to the second spot thanks to NantHealth's $411.4 million.

Santa Monica is once again the most prevalent city on the list. Their 43 fundings and wide variety of contributing companies still allows them to boast the title of Silicon Beach. Honest Co. and WhipClip were Santa Monica's major contributors in the past year with rising stars like Ring and The Black Tux quickly gaining momentum.

It's interesting to note that despite Playa Vista's prophesied rise to the forefront of LA tech, the neighborhood was shown very little love from VC's. While their newest residents may be established companies that are no longer seeking funding rounds, their startup scene has yet to take hold. But that beckons the broader question: does the quantity or quality of a tech scene's companies define its status?
