Who would really win in a fight: Bugs Bunny or Harley Quinn? If you’ve ever pondered this question or others like it, the long-awaited answer is finally on its way. Warner Bros. Games announced its new free-to-play game MultiVersus back in November. Now, the company will launch the game’s open beta version on July 26.

Developed by Player First Games, MultiVersus is a two-versus-two game featuring iconic characters from across the Warner Bros. multiverse. From DC Comics heroes and villains like Batman, Superman and Harley Quinn to cartoon icons like Tom and Jerry and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. These are only a handful of the 16 characters — and counting — that will be playable in the game.

MultiVersus is a dream project for our team at Player First Games, and we’re excited to officially reveal the game,” Tony Huynh, co-founder and game director at Player First Games, stated in last year’s announcement. “We’ve built MultiVersus from the ground up to be a cooperative, social game that embraces teamwork and strategy. We’re also focused on providing first class online gameplay through dedicated server-based rollback netcode so that friends and rivals can enjoy a seamless competitive experience as they duke it out with our diverse roster of characters.”

Just as a variety of characters are included in the game, players have a plethora of ways to use them. The team-based game features combat mechanics that allow certain characters to interact with their partners in unique ways. For instance, Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth attack are somehow paired with Shaggy and his sandwich projectile. In the same vein, the face-swapping ability of Arya Stark from Game of Thrones interlinks with Superman’s laser vision.

Aside from two-on-two gameplay, MultiVersus provides players with several additional ways to experience their character’s combat abilities. The game has options for one-on-one matches, four-player free-for-alls and co-op vs. AI matches, along with custom online lobbies, practice mode and tutorials. Matches can take place across eight different maps, setting the stage for a battle in the Batcave, Scooby-Doo’s Haunted Mansion and other venues.

Upon its worldwide release later this year, MultiVersus will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox’s Series X, S and One consoles. The game will also have full cross-play support, so online players can link up no matter what system they use.

Early access to the game was released on July 19 for anyone who participated in the MultiVersus closed alpha, and to those who earn a code via Twitch Drops. For those who might have missed out on the alpha or are still working to get the reward code, they can still get hyped for the July 26 release by watching the game’s latest trailer below.
