How Tinder Is Celebrating Pride Month
With the arrival of Pride Month, companies are amplifying support for the LGBTQIA+ community in a variety of ways. At Tinder, the company is leaning on the voices that matter most: its team members.
According to Associate Recruiter Noah Sanford, the organization’s Pride @ Tinder employee resource group is spearheading a handful of initiatives, including encouraging colleagues to donate to organizations such as the Transgender Law Center and conducting an in-person event. Additionally, the dating app is evoking its ethos of connection by working with New York City-based nonprofit The Generations Project to listen to “the dating stories of several generations of LGBTQIA+ folks.”
The initiatives reflect a larger culture of support for LGBTQIA+ team members that Sanford indicated as being imbued within the organization: “As a non-binary person, I have always worried about being accepted in the workplace, but that has never been an issue at Tinder,” they said.
Built In LA connected with Sanford to learn more about the company’s Pride Month celebrations and how the company strives to empower its LGBTQIA+ employees.
How is your company celebrating Pride throughout the month of June?
Tinder is celebrating Pride Month through festivities hosted and offered by our Pride employee resource group, Pride @ Tinder. The Pride ERG is composed of LGBTQIA+ employees as well as our allies within the company. We are celebrating by hearing the dating stories of several generations of LGBTQIA+ folks as presented by The Generations Project. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community will share their stories around drag culture, what life was like during the AIDS crisis and more.
Also, as an ERG, we feel that giving back to the community is terribly important. We are encouraging monetary donations to the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, the National Center for Transgender Equality and the Transgender Law Center.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be Pride Month without a party. Some of our Pride @ Tinder ERG members will be meeting safely in real life for a special event to celebrate our success as a team and a community.

How does your company support and empower the LGBTQIA+ members of your team?
I think the biggest way Tinder supports LGBTQIA+ members of the team is by having an extremely inclusive workplace environment that celebrates all identities and orientations. I have never worked at a company that values the well-being of its employees like Tinder does. Through support for both our Tinder members and Tinder employees, I am always honored to work at a place that values and celebrates differences. As a non-binary person, I have always worried about being accepted in the workplace, but that has never been an issue at Tinder. Quite the opposite. I feel like I can speak up for our community in ways that make the Tinder team better.
