THE PURPOSE:

As a Weld Engineer at Hyperloop One, you will play a key role in developing the transportation system of the future. You will advise the world class engineering team in material selection, manufacturing techniques, and testing protocols. 

THE ROLE:

The Welding Engineer will be a part of the Materials and Processes Engineering (M&PE) Team. The M&PE Division is responsible for supporting all other hardware engineering teams in the company to select and develop the most appropriate materials for a variety of applications, as well as to develop processes to join, improve, or modify those materials. Due to the variety of materials and applications used at Hyperloop, it is very important that candidates have a wide breadth of knowledge, as well as a drive and ability to quickly adapt and learn new processes, materials, and applications. We are seeking exceptional candidates to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility.

• Technical support in the areas of development and design, construction, maintenance, integrity testing and repair, and inspection
• Weld development for manual, semi-automatic, and automatic welding processes
• Identification and setup of weld equipment and processes
• Programming of welding robots
• Develop new or modify existing welding methods, techniques, and procedures and qualify in accordance with the appropriate code or specification
• Material Selection, specifically with regards to weldability
• Selection and validation of welding equipment (power supplies, automated welding solutions, etc)
• Overseeing system fabrication
• Understands the technical issues and can apply/interpret both current and future needs, situations, and applications
• Provides guidance and mentoring of lesser-skilled personnel on pipeline design, operation, maintenance, repair and regulatory codes as well as industry standards.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

• B.S. in Welding Engineering, Material Science, or related field
• At least 3 years of experience each the following fields:
• Laser welding process development
• Welding Procedure and Welder Qualification
• At least 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields:
• Welding process selection
• Design for manufacturability
• Welding equipment procurement
• Transportation
• Non-destructive inspection
• Construction environment

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (such as AWS, ASTM, etc.)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical matters
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to take initiative and work with both company and non-company personnel to accomplish goals in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision
