Our mission is to revolutionize transportation and transform cities and supply chains globally. In line with our large ambitions, we need a top-flight legal team to address a wide array of novel and complex legal issues. These include corporate and projecting financing, regulatory affairs, joint ventures and partnership agreements, and intellectual property.

We are hiring our first in-house transportation policy counsel to help the company craft a legal framework for a new mode of transportation.

Experience is not required. Nobody in the world will have experience in this (completely new) area of the law, because we are hiring someone to help us create the area of law.

You will need to master varied existing areas of law including safety, rights of way, permitting, environmental, construction and infrastructure, and government procurement. You will need to gather an in-depth understanding of other laws including those governing transit, rail, aviation, autonomous vehicles. You also will not be limited to federal, state, or international settings; you must be able to adapt your thinking and research across all three. Having high-level experience in any of these legal areas and domains would help greatly.

This position is a key role for our entire company. 

You should be a quick thinker, a quick learner, and both analytical and creative. You should have some political sense, but the most important qualifications for this specific role are not your political relationships. We are looking most for exceptional legal acumen, absolute brilliance, and creativity. While experience is not required, of course, there is a preference for experience in related legal areas of transportation. Experience can be in private sector, government, think tank, academia, or any combination.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

• A record of brilliance, in academics and/or career, required
• A fearsome work ethic, unimpeachable integrity, and proof of at least some creativity required
• Experience in an area of transportation or infrastructure law strongly preferred
• Legal degree, masters, or PhD not required but preferred
• Quantitative as well as qualitative capabilities preferred
• Experience crafting law for new technologies preferred
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team 
• Ability to work with legal, business and finance, engineering, and political teams, internally and externally
• Ability to communicate complex topics simply and clearly, including excellent writing skills (one pagers, white papers, briefs, etc.) required
• Willingness to travel to international capital cities preferred. 
• Ability to work from our Los Angeles headquarters strongly preferred; ability to work from the Los Angeles headquarters at least one week a month required.
