Senior Power Systems Engineer
The Transponics Division is responsible for the delivery of all hardware, controls, software, and power electronics in the Hyperloop One system. These include microelectronics, antennas, sensors, data acquisition & processing, communications & navigation, onboard networks and buses, mission and safety management, electric propulsion, batteries, and other electronics. The Transponics Division will integrate all hardware and software products with Hyperpod, Tube, and Hyperloop One Mission Control subsystems.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex electrical engineering functions to design and develop all hardware, controls, software, and power electronics in futuristic ground transportation system: Hyperloop (including microelectronics, antennas, sensors, data acquisition and processing, communications and navigation, onboard networks and buses, mission and safety management, electric propulsion, batteries, and other electronics) and integrate hardware and software products with custom built machinery and their subsystems.
- Design and develop grid interconnection power systems, and propulsion distribution systems fed by variable speed drives.
- Perform cable ampacity, grounding, short-circuit, arc-flash, and lightning calculations.
- Design grounding system. Design fault protection system. Design lightning protection system.
- Specify power cables and equipment based on analysis results, manufacturer datasheets, site and installation constraints, schedule and cost.
- Work with vendors to select power equipment, such as medium voltage switchgear, relays, transformers, enclosures, power cables, cable terminations, insulators, surge protection devices, and reactive compensation devices.
- Review wiring diagrams from power equipment suppliers.
- Develop drawings for electrical one-line diagram, equipment layout and elevation arrangement, as well as trench and conduit design.
- Work with field engineers to review equipment installation, wiring, and perform protective relay settings.
- Oversee and guide power system engineers to specify and design Hyperloop power distribution equipment and systems.
- Responsible for the functionality, accuracy, and compliance of the electrical system to codes and regulations.
- Provide professional engineering stamping to Hyperloop electrical design.
