THE PURPOSE:

The Systems Engineering Leader provides overall technical leadership and management oversight for the Systems Engineering organization. This position is responsible for maintaining a balance between strategic and tactical focus. He/She is responsible for providing organizational vision, leadership and guidance to ensure daily operations align with current and long-term goals.

In this role, the Systems Engineering Leader drives the organization through innovation, adherence to process discipline and quality. This critical function will hold the ultimate responsibility for successful performance of product and project delivery.

The successful candidate will be a member of the leadership team and will report to the SVP, HW Engineering.

THE ROLE:

  • Responsible for technical performance, planning and execution, customer interaction, product build, integration and test and other commitments for the Hyperloop One system
  • Responsible for all aspects of systems engineering including requirements management (development, decomposition, tracking, and validation), configuration management, and risk management
  • Manage project and engineering teams, technical staff and multiple subcontractors
  • Directs the integration of a team that includes architecture, requirements and analysis. Includes oversight of contract work activities and quality of services
  • Facilitate strong inter-/intra-organizational collaboration; support to organizational strategy development
  • Systems Engineering project/program execution (i.e., meeting project cost, schedule and technical commitments)
  • Oversee the development, implementation, improvement, and execution of new and existing methods and practices in systems integration
  • Maintains ownership of Systems Engineering policies and procedures; supports the development/deployment of common engineering process initiatives; continuous process improvement using organizational metrics to drive improvements while ensuring process compliance
  • Provide rapid assessment and resolution of problems that arise including trade-off assessments and assessing the effectiveness of solutions and corrective measures
  • Ultimate decision authority and responsibility for meeting customer and contract requirements

CANDIDATE PROFILE: 

The successful candidate must be able to provide superior technical guidance and have an in-depth understanding of the benefits and downsides of various systems architecture decisions; understanding of full Systems Engineering life-cycle.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

Candidates must have a proven track record of implementing best practices while leading their team through all aspects of system/product development life-cycle, including: requirements development/management, Specialty Engineering (RMA- Reliability, Maintainability and Availability, Security, Safety, etc.), preliminary and detailed design, product implementation, critical parameter, product qualification, transition to production, production release, and maintenance/sustainment.

  • BS in Engineering or related discipline; advanced Engineering degree or MBA preferred
  • Ability to work across various engineering disciplines to derive and decompose requirements
  • Demonstrated success in shaping and leading diverse teams in a large dynamic project environment
  • Experience with system modeling and optimization techniques
  • Minimum of eight years of senior technical management or leadership position on complex systems
  • Systems engineering background in integrated system performance across the full system/product development life-cycle
  • Previous hands-on development, design, and analysis with system capabilities and requirements development experience
  • Firm understanding of the use of standard program and system management tools
  • Experience with identifying critical staffing resources to ensure staffing plans address technical development areas
  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities while dealing with incomplete or inconsistent data
  • Team leadership skills with the ability to work across functional team lines to develop innovative and creative solutions to a wide range of complex technical and programmatic issues
  • Requires strong written and verbal presentation skills including formal and informal presentation of work and assessments to critical audience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to dialogue, negotiate, influence and work with others collaboratively and constructively
  • Customer focused execution

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • MS or MBA
  • SE experience with Space vehicles
