The Role

The Product Engineer will be part of the Product Development team. This team defines and develops the overall architecture of the Hyperloop Transport System. Ultimately, we will design reliable and scalable products that make the next generation of mass transit a reality. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

The Product Engineer will perform a variety of tasks and be responsible for managing the life cycle of products and services. The selected candidate will work with all engineering disciplines, product management, project management, and business strategy teams needed to develop and define product concepts that meet the mission needs of our customers. Product engineering activities include feasibility studies, specification development, system modeling and simulation, leading cross-functional team efforts and reporting to top management.

Responsibilities

We are looking for candidates who are eager to work in a team environment that is both analytical and hands on. Product Engineers are the “hub of the wheel”; they are assigned to a program and become a product expert. Every day is different depending on the phase of program implementation. Candidates see the entire life cycle of their assigned program from conception to production because of Hyperloop One’s vertical integration and access to world class test and validation facilities. Candidates use their strengths to grow within the Product organization and potentially move into other functional departments.

  • Manages and coordinates product development projects.
  • Coordinates engineering activities as necessary with other groups and/or suppliers to meet system requirements.
  • Evaluates and resolves technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues.
  • Coordinates with vendors and/or customers on a frequent basis.
  • Ensures that labeling and marketing/promotional literature match product specifications.
  • Researches and monitors customer and industry developments.
  • Generating ideas for new products and researching feasibility in terms of profitability, resource availability and compliance with regulations.
  • Identifies potential new product opportunities.
  • Works with other departments to establish a design, technology, product development, and vendor strategy.
  • Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Evaluating and presenting analytical results to colleagues and management.
  • Liaising with engineering, research, technical and/or production staff.
  • Writing and reading technical papers, reports, reviews and specifications.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments. 

Minimum Required Experience

  • Strong grasp of first order engineering and design principles.
  • Familiarity with computer programming.
  • Polished oral & written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Training in college level theoretical and applied mechanics, vibrations, fluid dynamics, physics, metallurgy, electricity, thermodynamics, heat transfer and manufacturing techniques.
  • Familiarity with hardware engineering, manufacturing and test processes.
  • Willing to travel internationally.
