ATTN: is currently seeking an entrepreneurial In-House Counsel to handle most of the company's day to day legal needs. As our first legal hire, you will review and draft a wide variety of agreements (e.g. contracts for services, NDAs, MSAs, etc.), and negotiate directly with external clients’ legal teams. You will work closely with the Co-Founder of ATTN: and interact with cross functional stakeholders (e.g. Finance, HR, Sales) and external parties.
What You’ll Do
- Draft and negotiate various commercial agreements related to the company’s business interests and related media productions. This includes, but is not limited to: agreements related to the production, development and/or exploitation of creative materials with vendors, service providers, independent contractors, media companies and digital/social media platforms; license agreements; event agreements; sponsorship, promotion and brand integration agreements; and charitable partnership agreements.
- Review all elements of creative materials and advising the business on clearance and rights issues including with respect to trademark, copyright, right of publicity and privacy matters.
- Evaluate licensing, production, talent and other related agreements to evaluate production rights and third party approvals.
- Draft and update End User License Agreements and Privacy Policies of the company’s various online properties and products and collaborate with the company’s P&E department to sure the company abides by all privacy and data collection laws.
- Research new and existing legal and industry related regulations and policies affecting the business and advise on any actions the company should take.
- Manage and maintain the company’s intellectual property portfolio and provide guidance on obtaining new trademarks and other intellectual property protection.
- Develop strong cross-functional working relationships to learn about key legal issues affecting various departments.
- Handle human resource matters with the Head of People Operations as needed, including drafting and updating internal company policies and commission agreements for employees.
- Review editorial and newsroom content and advise on defamation, fair use, privacy, and related media law issues.
Who You Are
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Member of the California State Bar or Registered with the California Bar as in house counsel
- 4+ years of legal experience with an entertainment/media law firm or in-house legal department of a media, entertainment company or advertising agency (or similar)
- Excellent drafting, negotiating and analytical skills
- A strong understanding and interest in online/digital media, advertising, and marketing
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills which enable you to work with multiple personalities and styles at all levels of the organization
- Self-starter with a very strong work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team but also independently with minimal supervision
- Able to make sound legal decisions under tight deadlines and evaluate risks in light of business concerns
