The Power Electronics division is responsible for the design and development of the Hyperloop One Propulsion System. This includes the propulsion motor, power electronics, high power solid state switches, controllers and system algorithms, and supporting systems. These components combine electromagnetic, electric circuit, mechanical, thermal, control, and embedded software sub-systems. We are seeking candidates with broad skill-sets and various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility.

 

Responsibilities

  • Model and simulate various protection, modulation, and control strategies for low voltage and medium voltage converters.
  • Develop and implement in real-time embedded firmware and software codes.
  • Define test plans to validate protection and control design.
  • Test high speed communication, and signals delay and synchronization.
  • Test and debug firmware and software codes on power hardware.
  • Work closely with power electronics hardware design engineer. Support hardware unit test of power electronics.
  • Support integration of power converter control into the system level software.
  • Work in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team environment to develop state of the art power electronics technology.

 

Requirements

  • Experience in FPGA firmware application, project- oriented design using FPGA (Xilinx, Altera, etc). Experience with System on Chip (SoC) design is preferred.
  • Strong skill with FPGA logic programming and synthesis (Verilog or VHDL), familiar with commercially available FPGA debugging software (Vivado, Quartus, Modelsim, etc).
  • Hands-on Experience with industry standard high-speed communication, familiar with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, etc.
  • Strong skills in Real Time Embedded controls using RTOS, C, C++ programming.
  • Strong skills in circuit/control simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink.
  • Solid understanding of variable speed motor drive control theories, such as vector control, field oriented control, and direct torque control is preferred.
  • Experience with implementing converter protection, modulation, and control algorithms in embedded systems is preferred.
  • Multilevel converter control development experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
