The Automation & Manufacturing Division is responsible to build, and to develop the processes and equipment that will build the Hyperloop. Hyperloop-One is seeking a proven, hands-on Director of Quality to proactively design, build and lead the Quality Strategy and Function across our organization. You will have the unique opportunity and responsibility to develop our Quality Management System and Quality Department from the ground up.

The Director of Quality will be based at our campus in Los Angeles, CA. To be successful, this person will be a driven, self-motivated leader who can create a system, organization and culture that is agile and successful across multiple functions and geographies.

Responsibilities

• Set the Quality strategy, goals and objectives for operations and production
• Provide budget and hiring plan for the Quality Department
• Develop and hire the Quality Team that will implement corporate, production and supplier quality systems
• Successfully carry out responsibilities in a dynamic and growing start-up environment
• Develop and implement the corporation’s internal ISO 9001 Quality Management System
• Actively work with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to specify internal and supplier quality performance metrics
• Actively work with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to support the resolution of internal and external quality issues
• Directly responsible for development and implementation of highly effective root cause analysis and subsequent corrective action
• Assure compliance and continuous improvements to all quality management systems
• Work extensively with Safety Engineering in devising our path to regulatory approval
• Collaborate with Engineering during prototype, development and first article manufacturing. Insure that process capabilities match design requirements
• Think strategically, act tactically with the strength of character to motivate others to buy into ideas, concepts and values

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
• 15 years in a complex Quality Assurance/Quality Control organization
• 10 years with ISO9001 and TS16949, AS9100C or similar program in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• 8 years direct management of employees
• 8 years hands-on shop floor quality management
• 5 years supply chain and vendor control
• ASQ/CQE/CQM certification with experience in a production manufacturing environment
• Strong experience of ISO9001 implementation
• Strong knowledge of FMEA, Root Cause, 8D, SPC, SQC and Six Sigma
• Experience with NPI, assembly processes and automation
• Strong focus on team building and employee development
• Experience with a wide variety of components and processes related to structural and industrial products such as motor manufacturing, metal forming, machining, fabrication of large structures, electrical subsystems, concrete and construction
• Experience in a global manufacturing environment
• Occasional domestic and international travel to suppliers and installation sites
• Strong interpersonal & communication skills
• Detail oriented and highly organized to manage many projects and details simultaneously
