Engineering Director Overview
The Director of Engineering leads the engineering team in defining and implementing an enterprise eCommerce platform that delivers delightful experiences to end users. You will have a key leadership role in building a strong engineering team and culture that emphasizes innovation, growth and development. You will have end-to-end responsibility for the technology platform and the success of the engineering organization.
The Platform
You will be working with Magento Enterprise deployed to multiple environments using cutting edge orchestration tools on AWS. Employing open-source tools to manage a container-based infrastructure, the platform and processes enable engineers to code, build and deploy in a transparent and efficient manner with an Agile team. Growth will lead to deployment, scale and internationalization requirements supporting enterprise customers engaging across multiple markets.
As the Director of Engineering, you will: - Own the entire technology stack including engineering, architecture and infrastructure
- Work with a growing team to define, develop and deliver an excellent product that caters to quality-focused buyers and sellers. This is not a garage-startup!
- Be a thought leader in digital platforms and technologies, regardless of the screen, device or deployment environment. Apply industry best practices, agile processes and design patterns to manage the engineering efforts
- Lead engineering teams on the development, testing and implementation of the platform and product. This is a new project that will see rapid growth into international markets.
- Establish best practices around hiring, code quality, security, site reliability and testing
- Recruit and retain a team of world-class engineers, grow and shape their career development
- Be willing to roll up your sleeves (ie.write code) to support the startup team when needed
- Collaborate with a team of product, UX/UI and business experts
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably in a high-growth tech company
- 3+ years experience managing engineering teams, preferably in a high-growth tech company
- AWS experience related to multi-AZ deployments for an international ecommerce platform
- eCommerce experience with PCI-compliant implementation and adherence
- Experience in automated deployments, end to end testing and strong team and project management skills
- A startup-focused mindset with experience building ecommerce applications to market
- (Preferred) Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
