The Director of Business Systems role is responsible for the leadership required to identify, evaluate, and deliver solutions that leverage technology to meet the needs of business operations for Hyperloop One. The position will be responsible for building out a team to partner with business stakeholders in HR, Finance, Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing and other key departments to roll out new systems and ongoing process improvements within the framework of existing systems where applicable. The Director will drive the appropriate IT investment to ensure systems are aligned with business strategy, provide optimal user experience and generate valuable returns. This position will ensure that the company’s business systems are architected, developed and maintained in a manner consistent with the company’s global strategies and requirements and that will allow the business to sustain accelerated growth capability.
Responsibilities

 

The Director of Business Systems will be responsible for the following functions:

 

Strategy & Planning

• Direct the analysis and documentation of strategic and tactical business initiatives, translating and articulating the business’ goals and objectives into short and long term application strategy roadmaps.
• Partner with the senior leadership team to ensure that the project roadmap reflects business priorities as projects and business needs change.
• Educate and influence business partners on best-practice approaches to building a robust, resilient, scalable and secure applications environment along with the processes and deliverables required to support the effective delivery of those solutions.
• Improve business processes and support critical business strategies by managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of core business applications for HR, Finance, Operations, Engineering and Manufacturing.

 

Acquisition & Deployment

• Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Evaluate, install configure, and deploy new applications, systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
• Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
• Serve as the primary interface for all enterprise applications projects and systems related issues.
• Oversee vendor management and contract negotiation for all enterprise systems.
• Ensure all cloud and managed service providers meet the SLA’s and reporting requirements for all incidents as well as evaluating the effectiveness and quality of the services, driving innovation and reducing escalations.

 

Operational Management

• Implement policies and procedures as needed.
• Establish, monitor and track performance measures to drive process improvement and measure progress against departmental objectives.
• Provide leadership and guidance to build a team with a culture of trust, problem solving, innovation and ownership.
• Set priorities with the team and ensure timely, accurate, and consistent service and communication to internal business partners.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have a blend of technical and business experience with a strong background in the technology stack powering enterprise applications.

 

Formal Education

• IT Professional with a four-year college degree in Computer Science or in a technology related field.

Knowledge & Experience

• 10+ years of overall active experience in Information Technology.
• 7+ years of experience is leading large-scale software implementation projects with direct, hands-on involvement in overseeing the direction, development, and execution of software solutions.
• 5+ years of experience in a management level position, building and leading high-performing teams.
• Thorough knowledge of finance and accounting, project management and systems development lifecycle.
• Prior experience with implementation of enterprise wide ERP system and financial tools.
• Proven history of delivering key initiatives such as deployment of business applications, technology migrations, new product launches and maximizing operational efficiencies and cost reduction.
• Experience managing the business systems for an international company with distributed locations.
• Understanding of cloud and SaaS platform-based company operations and infrastructure.

Work Conditions

• Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other computer components.
• Physically able to participate in meetings, presentations and training sessions.
• Some travel may be required for offsite system applications management or attendance of job-related conferences or seminars.
