The Automation & Manufacturing Division is responsible to build, and develop the processes and equipment that will build, the Hyperloop. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of highly qualified, diverse individuals.

The Cost Engineer will be based at our campus in Los Angeles, CA. You’ll work closely with Design, Business Intelligence, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Partners to provide detailed cost forecast for our products by using engineering, manufacturing and construction knowledge. You’ll analyze and apply knowledge of manufacturing and construction methods, processes, and materials to engage DFx activities and cost reduction possibilities.

We are looking for someone who is intensely collaborative and passionately focused on our internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Engineering Teams to develop complete BOMs of our systems
  • Costing BOMs for new and current programs. Investigate and assign line items costs, tooling and cap ex investment requirements
  • Estimate labor costs and total costs to build our systems
  • Investigate and apply global material, labor and freight prices. Source domestic and international suppliers
  • Develop and own cost estimating models for various products/processes and associated tooling and cap ex investment
  • Create standard, professional templates for cost reporting
  • Create cost reports for various audiences
  • Engage significantly in cost reduction ideas and methods
  • Prepare justifications for cap ex related to manufacturing
  • Create processes for measuring cost and ensure the accuracy of cost reporting

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • Experience with a wide variety of components and processes related to structural and industrial products such as motor manufacturing, metal forming, machining and fabrication of large structures, electrical subsystems, concrete and construction
  • Excellent in Excel, math, analytical skills and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Experience in a global manufacturing environment preferred
  • Occasional domestic and international travel to suppliers and trade shows
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized to manage many projects and cost details simultaneously
