Acorns is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to handle a wide variety of legal and regulatory matters. As our first in-house legal counsel, you will work closely with our VP of Finance, teams across the organization including business development, engineering, product, marketing, as well as our broker-dealer and registered investment advisor subsidiaries.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform general in-house counsel activities related to a fast-growing company
  • Prepare and review commercial contracts, partnership agreements and other documents for day-to-day business transactions
  • Assist in corporate governance and securities matters at the executive and board-level
  • Provide legal advice and support to departments across the company
  • Interface with and manage multiple outside law firms
  • Complete special projects as needed and other duties assigned

Job Requirements:

  • J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and licensed to practice in California
  • Minimum 6 years of legal experience, with 3+ years of experience in a top law firm
  • Skilled in a wide variety of general corporate and commercial transactional work
  • Ability to provide hands-on counsel to teams across the company, identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations, and assure legal compliance
  • Ideal candidate would have experience with venture-backed companies as well as investment management and broker-dealers
