We are a startup with an ambitious plan for the next 12-24 months and three main business lines to manage.  We are looking for an fun, energetic and self-motivated person who has a can-do attitude and likes to get things done.  You’re the type of individual who hits the ground sprinting, is forward thinking, realizes processes can be improved and takes the initiative to improve them.  You will have experience in running accounting and corporate operations but thrive in a “start-up” environment where priorities often change and independent judgement is required.  You are a quick learner with proven ability to come up with creative solutions in an unfamiliar environment.  In this position, you will exercise your superior communication skills and show off your ability to multitask in a fast-paced and collaborative environment -- all with a smile.

This job is based in Los Angeles and reports to the CFO & Corporate Development Lead.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting functions, including GL, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, cash management, cap table and all regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Work with Chief Financial Officer to create and maintain budgets, cash flow forecasts and capital budgeting decisions.
  • Perform all month-end closing activities and preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, assisting Chief Financial Officer in preparing monthly Board packages, management and investor reports, and/or other ad hoc reporting.
  • Develop and analyze accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Coordinate all audit activity, including annual financial and contract audits. Act as liaison for the external financial auditors.
  • Manage timely filing of all required tax returns and other statutory filings. Act as liaison for the external tax accounts.
  • Manage payroll processing and oversight of employee benefit programs, including health, dental, life, and stock options.
  • Implement, and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. Continue to improve upon current internal controls, policies and infrastructure to scale with the business
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external parties, both written and verbally
  • Assist the CFO in developing a staffing plan for finance and operations that scales commensurately with the company.  Assist CFO in hiring and managing this team.
  • Report to the CFO, work closely with CEO, and be prepared to assist both with other ad-hoc projects as needed.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license preferred
  • MBA a plus
  • 8+ years accounting experience, most recently with start-up companies.  
  • Must love Quickbooks, Excel and Google Docs
  • Must be hands-on and roll up sleeves on a regular basis
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize work
  • Attention to detail, organized and high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Serious bonus points for experience in themed entertainment restaurants, virtual reality, engineering consulting or circuses.

  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast paced environment, work collaboratively with other departments and communicate effectively with the management team.
  • Experience with the best practices of a larger company, but more important, an understanding of how to operate in a smaller, early-stage company with limited resources
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast paced environment, work collaboratively with other departments and communicate effectively with the management team
  • Be an expense hawk with the moral fiber of Netherrack
  • Maintain a positive, winning attitude and instill that same attitude across the company
