Music-sharing site plug.dj announced yesterday the closing of a $1.25 million round led by Javelin Venture Partners. According to a press release, plug.dj will put the funds towards hiring and product development, as well as improving community support.

The community factor is what plug.dj is all about. Users (represented on the site by adorable dancing avatars) can make playlists together by chatting and taking turns playing music. The real-time music discovery and relationship-building that result keeps plug.dj’s community of several million users from 190 different countries loyally engaged: the average user spends over an hour on the site each visit.

"Community is at the very essence of what we strive to foster through plug.dj," CEO Alex Reinlieb said in the press release. "There are many great things to come as we continue to work around the clock to unite people throughout the world through music.”

The people behind plug.dj’s dedicated community are music and tech junkies themselves: President Steven Sacks has been an international house DJ for over 20 years, while Reinlieb was a product manager at Lehman Brothers. Since launching plug.dj in 2012, the team has been focused on building an engaged community while still maintaining the site's international reputation as a great music discovery and sharing platform.

“We're passionate about investing in innovative companies with strong founding teams, like plug.dj,” said Alex Gurevich, partner at Javelin Venture Partners, said in the press release. “We believe they have built something very special, as evidenced by their phenomenal user growth and engagement, and we’re excited to help them empower more people from around the world to build these amazing communities.”
