AngelHack Kicks Off Worldwide Tour in L.A. on April 27

Are you ready for some hacking? You should be. This Saturday at 9 a.m. a group of developers will hunker down for a 36-hour hackathon called LA Hacks, powered by AngelHack, which will jumpstart a seven-week worldwide tour.

“AngelHack is kicking off in LA because it's a great mix between technical and non-technical talent, which helps us understand how some of the new programs we are iterating on are going to work,” says AngelHack CEO Greg Gopman. “These include hackathon workshops, learn to code classes, and a new versions of our online platform.”

This year, AngelHack will organize and host 100 hackathons all over the world. These events will bring together over 10,000 developers in more than 50 cities.

“The hackathon will mostly consist of technical talent from university's and freelance professionals interested in starting their own projects,” Gopman says. “However, we are open to anyone coming in with great new ideas.”

It is the organizers’ goal to bring Silicon Valley-style hackathons to other communities. As such, they follow a typical format: 36 hours of hacking by 150 to 200 developers who work through the night to solve problems. Winners have the chance to join the AngelHack Accelerator and turn their hackathon projects into real-life startups.

This year, 40 winners from cities such as London, Jakarta, Sydney, Toronto and, of course, Los Angeles will join AngelHack’s 12-week accelerator program, following which they will converge on Silicon Valley September 1 through 10th for demos, fundraising and to attend TechCrunch Disrupt.

LA Hacks will take place at Cross Campus on 820 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA 90401, starting at 9 a.m. Register for free tickets to the event here or join a pre-event Developer Workshop on April 24. Built In LA is proud to be a media partner for LA Hacks.
