Two Bit Circus adds $15M Series B, plans a series of amusement parks

Two Bit Circus, the LA-based experimental entertainment agency that dabbles in, among other things, 360 video, carnivals and music videos, announced the close of a $15 million Series B this morning. As if the influx of cash weren't enough, the founders also revealed the company's next venture: micro amusement parks.

At around 30,000 square feet, the interactive parks will feature multi-person virtual reality and mixed reality, social play experiences, group games, molecular gastronomy and mixology. Naturally, the first park will open in the team's hometown: Los Angeles.

“In the past, Two Bit Circus’ installations have been temporary and held primarily at large events and conferences," co-founder and CTO Eric Gradman in a statement. " We’re thrilled to build our first permanent location in our backyard. Our band of scientists, artists, storytellers, and performers are excited to bring to life a world of year-round fun.”

Founded in 2012 by UCLA grad Brent Bushnell and USC grad Gradman, nailing down a specific industry has never been part of Two Bit Circus' plans. Known for their self-described, "liberal use of lasers, fire, and robots..." the startup has shot 360 video for the likes of the NFL and NBA, installed VR attractions for the Super Bowl and even created a high-tech traveling carnival to get people excited about STEM.

“Out of home entertainment hasn’t changed much since laser tag and mini-golf," said Bushnell in a statement. "The latest tech has just blown the doors open on a whole new world; changed what it means to play, and play together socially. People stress about tech pushing people apart, but we love watching it bring them together!”

The round was led by JAZZ Venture Partners and included participation from existing investors Foundry Group, Techstars Ventures and Intel Capital. New investors include Dentsu Ventures, Georgian Pine and others.
