5 upcoming LA hackathons you don't want to miss

Hackathons can be held for any myriad of reasons, but as LA's tech community becomes more closely knit, groups of Silicon Beach residents are banding together to help make our home a better place through technology. Here are five upcoming hackathons you should put on your schedule.

DevFest Los Angeles 2016, December 4 at 8 a.m.

The Southern California chapter of Google Developers Groups, a volunteer community dedicated to creating innovative projects and sharing their experience with Google's technologies, is holding its second annual GDG Los Angeles DevFest in early-December, and the lineup is stacked. Attendees will be able to hear from some of Google's brightest starts, network with some serious up-and-comers and, of course, partake in a little hacking (with prizes!).

Civic Hack Night, December 6 at 6 p.m.

As a part of LA's growing tech focus, the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) hosts hackathons every Tuesday night at their DTLA headquarters. Everyone is invited to take part in the ongoing initiative to use technology to address civic issues facing Los Angeles.

Debug Politics LA Hackathon, December 9 - 11 at 7:00 p.m.

The election is over, but the furor caused by the current political landscape has people from all demographics clambering for a change to the process. Debug Politics LA Hackathon is a strictly nonpartisan for such individuals, with the ultimate  goal of using technology to find innovative ways to make a difference. The hackathon's stated objective is: "Find one specific thing about the election cycle you were dissatisfied with and build something to fix it."

Lady Problems: A Hackathon Series Addressing the Problems that Prevent Female Entrepreneurship, December 10 - 11 at 9 a.m.

The Lady Problems Global Hackathon Series is a new series of hackathons launching across the country with the intent of creating technologies to address problems that can prevent female entrepreneurship. Ever wonder why women make up more than half the world's population, yet only four percent of Fortune 500 companies are led by women? Join together to create technologies designed to empower women entrepreneurs and grow our community too.

Hustle N' Code, December 3 at 10 a.m.

You won't find a better cause than South LA Hustle N’ Code Hackathon, which is celebrating its fifth annual hackathon this December. The event will bring together community members to solve community problems using code, helping schools, churches, parks and neighborhoods in the process.
