We've said it before and we'll say it again. Finding a roommate on Craigslist or Facebook isn't easy. But with rising LA rents and no end to the swell in sight, many of us must resort to coliving longer than we probably want to.
Roomi, a free mobile app launching today in LA, is joining the quest to help people find a better way to connect while searching for a place to live.
“Compatibility for things like noise tolerance and openness to pets — things that may seem small but can easily turn into sources of conflict or even dealbreakers — makes all the difference,” said Ajay Yadav, Founder and CEO of Roomi, in a statement.Users can post rooms, connect with potential roommates through the in-app chat and even get access to discounts. When you sign up, new members fill out several fields to determine compatibility, like pet allergies, drinking habits, like and dislikes, etc.
“Roomi is a step into the future,” said Osuke Honda, General Partner at DCM Ventures. “Roomi’s social graph and housing details make it possible to have more transparency and security about a potential living situation."
Roomi launched in New York City in June 2015 and recently expanded to San Francisco, where growth is already outpacing that seen in NYC. Plans for 2016 include expansion to Chicago and Austin.
