LA tech tallied over $150M in funding in September. Here are the top 5 rounds

Los Angeles startups brought in north of $150 million dollars in September with a few huge Series As for up-and-coming companies. This month's top five funding rounds belong to an eclectic group of startups highlighted by a few lifestyle companies:

5. HelloTech, $12.5 million, September 17

Investors: Led by Madrona Venture Group with participation from Accel Partners, Amplify.LA, CrossCut Ventures, and Upfront Ventures.

Bio: HelloTech is changing the way people view tech-support and purchase technology. Founded as a service to aid the baby-boomer generation with their tech queries, the company hires college students with strong tech skills to solve any in-home conundrums. 

News: In July the company launched a new website to assist people looking to purchase technology devices and services for their parents, BuyYourParents.com.

4. MoviePilot, $16 million, September 16

Investors: T-Venture, Webedia

Bio: Moviepilot is the world's largest film community, connecting millions of fans via shareable content and social media. As both a platform and a social publishing company, they empower fans to write articles and create videos which they curate and distribute to over 30 million fans worldwide.

News: The company partnered with Entertainment Weekly in July to showcase exclusive video from San Diego's Comic Con.

2. The Black Tux, $25 million, September 9

Investors: Menlo Ventures, First Round Capital, Stripes Group

Bio: The Black Tux is the new way to rent a tuxedo—simple, stylish, and affordable. You no longer have to look like you are wearing your dad's old suit. The company was launched with one simple idea: to offer an elevated tuxedo rental experience focused on quality, convenience, and most of all, style.

News: According to the LA Business Journal, The Black Tux has experienced double-digit growth month-over-month since its launch and continues to sell out of inventory.

2. Laurel & Wolf, $25 million, September 3

Investors: Benchmark Capital

Bio: Founded by the lead designer of Los Angeles' most prestigious interior design firm and a successful tech entrepreneur, Laurel & Wolf is turning the interior design space on it's head by making professional interior design accessible and affordable for everyone.

News: Laurel & Wolf and P.S. Arts are teaming up for LA Tech's Got Talent on October 4th. Top LA-based startup companies will gather to showcase their hidden talents before a panel of celebrity judges.

1. Headspace, $34.5 million, September 17

Investors: The Chernin Group, with participation from Advancit Capital, Allen & Company, Breyer Capital, Broadway Video Ventures, Deerfield Management, Freelands Ventures, and William Morris Endeavor.

Bio: Headspace believes there is nothing more important than looking after the health of the mind, so we’ve made it our mission to get people everywhere to look after this precious resource by sitting to meditate for a few minutes a day, everyday.

News: Headspace's newest round of funding also brought in some dollars from celebrity investors, including Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, Jared Leto, Ryan Seacrest, and LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner.
