HONK, a roadside assistance app company, has just raised a $12 million Series A round. The app lets users order tow trucks at a discount, without paying an annual subscription fee like AAA requires. Just launched in November 2014, the company has raised $13.8 million in total.

The HONK app lets users order tow, tire change, jump start, fuel, or lock out services on demand. The company has signed up over 20,000 tow trucks and customers can order services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. HONK claims most service trucks arrive in 15 to 30 minutes and customers can use the app to track the location of their tow truck en route. Customers also see the final price before they order.

“HONK is a safe, transparent and simple to use solution that leverages technology to help stranded motorists get back on the road in a fast, reliable and affordable way,” said Corey Brundage, CEO and founder in a statement. “HONK users experience the same peace of mind previously only available through auto club memberships, without the membership fees.”

The company will be using its new investment to improve its app, expand marketing efforts and ramp up hiring. The Series A round was led by Altpoint Ventures and included Structure Capital, Karlin Ventures, Expansion VC, and Venture51.
