Southern California's tech explosion has brought with it a variety of employment opportunities, from coding to sales and marketing to growth hacking. Some of the most exciting startups in the Los Angeles area are hiring right now, so have a look and see which opportunities best match your experience, skills, and attitude.

Omaze is a fundraising platform that connects donors and fans with charitable causes and big-name celebrities. It seeks motivated relationship-builders who are willing to dedicate themselves and absorb knowledge as they go.

“We look for collaborative, supportive, team-players,” said Anna Silverman, who is in charge of hiring at Omaze. “We really focus on culture fit, and are looking for people who take their work seriously but not themselves; people with drive and ambition; the young, hungry type who wants to take on more than they can chew and learn a ton in the process. People who are passionate about the intersection of tech, entertainment and philanthropy, who want to build something.”

Lootsie

If you are passionate about digital currency and gaming, a job with Lootsie may suit you. Lootsie works with developers and worldwide brands to create rewards experiences for mobile apps that are fun for users. Its turnkey program helps create the customer loyalty that apps need to survive.

Lootsie's Marc Mitchell said he is less concerned with diplomas and experience than he is with the scrappy work ethic that makes the startup world spin.

“When we are looking to hire new people for our team, there are the basics to consider like talent and background,” said Mitchell. “But probably more important is attitude and disposition. This is something you can tell right away. Not everyone is a rah-rah type of person, and not everyone has to be, but are you excited to be here? Are you learning every day? Are you curious? We want people who are hungry, motivated, scrappy, and who can come up with creative solutions to get to the finish line. We are a startup and, even as we grow, want to maintain that mentality.”

[ibimage==33766==Original==none==self==ibimage_align-center]AirMedia

AirMedia provides online video advertising solutions, including 'premium-content-only' alternatives to YouTube. If you are fascinated by the nuts, bolts, and future of video content, they may have some work for you.

Luke McDonough of AirMedia also seeks out candidates who thrive in 'flat' startup cultures, but is primarily focused on intensive tech experience. “We recognize that we are a technology company first and foremost.” McDonough said. “We are trying to distinguish our engineering culture from that of a typical web startup by building a small, high-end team that writes disciplined code. Even if it takes us longer to find those people, and costs us more to employ them."

“Conventional wisdom is that it is best to hack stuff fast and ship, but the nature of our product demands a higher level of reliability and scalability than that process produces,” he said. “We want engineers who ideally have CS degrees, and who have worked consistently as engineers through their careers, at the high end of the development spectrum. Our current team reflects that commitment, and we will go to great lengths to maintain it as we hire additional people into it.”

[ibimage==33759==Large==none==self==ibimage_align-center]Cargomatic

Cargomatic uses technology to help streamline the shipping business. If you're considered highly driven and maybe a bit offbeat – even in your social circle of early adopters – a job at Cargomatic may be what you're looking for.

"Cargomatic is looking for rock-stars in the making who add value without being asked to do so,” said Jamie Bond, the company's manager of talent acquisition. “We want employees with common sense and the sophistication needed to represent a fast rising tech startup in the heart of Silicon Beach."

Bond said that her company has a specific sort of eccentric in mind. “Essentially we are looking for the best of the best, someone who is a bit of an outlier in their own circle,” Bond said. “They have something special that sets them apart from the pack. Our new hires should be the smartest people in the room, and as well as have the potential to be future leaders of Cargomatic.”

Squawkin

Squawkin exists at the intersection of tech and communications and is among the most diverse emerging social media platforms. Its mission is to create a more promising future by streamlining the processes through which people connect and new voices express themselves in the present.

[ibimage==33762==Medium==none==self==ibimage_align-left]Nishith Bhatt, the company's chief marketing officer, said he looks for three criteria in new hires: forward thinking, bold curiosity, and an eagerness to work and play hard.

Bhatt said that his company wants to attract “people who are really interested in what’s next, and are interested in shaping it. People who will keep asking what the best way is to do something - not how it’s been done in the past, not how it’s being done now, not what the easiest way to do it is. People who combine a strong work ethic with a great sense of fun.”

Agent Ace

If you're interested in the complex world of real estate and how technology can make it better, you might be the right candidate for a job at Agent Ace, a moneyball-style real estate agent finder that recently pulled down $6 million in funding.

Chief product officer Tom Kuhr said he wants to find self-starting people with “an understanding that the whole can be and should be greater than the sum of the parts... We're using an agile development process, but spend a lot of time into thinking through features and functions before we start designing or coding.”

Kuhr said that Agent Ace seeks thinkers and doers, brainstormers and barnstormers. “Agent Ace is looking for experts in their respective area who have proven experience collaborating to solve big problems,” said Kuhr. “We know that skilled individuals solving small problems is effective in building a company, but a team of problem-solvers that can work together can solve even bigger challenges faster. Our employees all communicate well, can relay their thoughts, ideas and concerns to each other in a productive and positive manner. They can also play devil's advocate in a positive way, and think of potential pitfalls before they arise.”

Moovd

Si Gornick seems like a fascinating guy to work with. He is active and opinionated on Quora, and his bootstrapped online video startup Moovd is eager to hack its growth and boost its traffic.

Ever the contrarian, Gornick looks not for people who indulge in the stereotypical trappings of 'startup culture,' but people who can build solid professional relationships and take on projects made to last.

“Moovd is an innovative company that breaks the rules. I'd want my employees to think differently, talk less, do more, and actively avoid the conventional wisdom as they research and implement solutions. Just wearing the company t-shirt and thinking that's his job is not the kind of hire I'd be looking for. There's a tendency to try too hard to build a startup 'culture' that's usually the same 'culture' as the next startup that thinks it's so distinctive. Culture isn't half as important as having a mature attitude to working relationships.”
