ROLE SUMMARY:

Dollar Shave Club (DSC) is seeking a VP of Experience Design, who will lead our UX, digital design and digital copy organization to deliver a cohesive, best-in-class consumer experience across all of DSC’s owned & operated digital channels (eg. site, app, email, push).  

This role will be an integral part of a best-in-class team, defining the DSC experience for our millions of members around the world.  As a primary contributor to DSC’s brand perception, you will be tackling the real-world consumer problems which drive our business.  

The VP of Experience Design will be tasked with producing original concepts and leading a team in bringing them to life.  They will nurture and develop talent, identify and inspire greatness in others and foster cross-functional collaboration.  They will build a culture of excellence by promoting user-centered design processes and best practices, weaving together the rich tapestry of our powerful content, helpful service programs and business features.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conceptual Thought Leadership

  • Build a culture of UX & design excellence, setting a consistently high bar for execution and delivery of highly engaging experiences across our digital platforms
  • Provide consistent vision, direction, and leadership to the UX, digital design, and digital copy teams
  • Inspire teams to translate the digital experience vision and bring the vision to life in a memorable way
  • Enhance and maintain digital brand identity and associated guidelines to ensure a consistent application across multiple internal and external digital properties
  • Work in partnership with our Product Management, Customer Strategy, Engineering and Marketing leadership to identify, evaluate and implement operational efficiencies

Design

  • Define design strategy, style guides, and usability patterns to drive efficiency and consistency into our user experience.
  • Work with Product Management to develop and maintain a process for matching the level of investment to the size of opportunity per project
  • Clearly articulate product design direction to stakeholders to build consensus around specific solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects at one time, switching focus and resources between projects as required to manage priorities
  • Oversee the consistent delivery and maintenance of all UX specs and digital assets

Leadership

  • Develop talented experience designers, user experience researchers, and copywriters into world-class practitioners and leaders in their own right
  • Scale our experience design team articulating guiding principles, establishing "just enough" process, defining success metrics, updating our job level structure–to ensure the team’s health & success over the long term.
  • Identify resource gaps and needs; recruit top product designers and user experience researchers to fill these gaps.  
  • Motivate and inspire team members to produce best-in-class consumer experiences.
  • Performance management; including coaching Director level direct reports to effectively manage low performers and engage/retain high performers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of UX/Visual Design/Product Design experience with industry recognition
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following HCI, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Visual Design, and/or related fields or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive knowledge of wireframing and prototyping tools such as Axure, InVision or Omnigraffle, plus visual design tools such as Sketch, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience in User Research, Usability studies, and test-driven design practices
  • Good awareness of the latest front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery etc
  • Experience leading a product design team that has included Interaction Design, Visual Design, UX Research, Prototyping and copywriting
  • Proven experience translating business goals into elegant and intuitive interactive designs
  • Experience working on a consumer-facing product with proven ability to optimize and iterate over time (e-commerce or online subscription experience a plus)
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
