The Vice President of Patient Affairs has deep expertise in understanding patient dynamics and regulation to drive efficiency and innovation in the operational execution of clinical trials recruitment and retention program. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative clinical trial engagement strategies aimed to recruit and retain patients and develops programs, tactical plans, and coordinates the execution of print and digital tactics aimed at patients, referring healthcare providers and other audiences. The Vice President of Patient Affairs will identify and collaborate with stakeholders to determine the recruitment strategy for the launch of each clinical trial and will ensure a strategy that is in alignment with identified priorities. In addition, this position will know and stay abreast of developing trends in the industry, enabling continuous improvement and the ability to offer cutting edge solutions. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the recruitment, engagement, and retention of research patients into clinical trial studies
  • Responsible for implementing Clinical Trials engagement strategy roadmap
  • Responsible for the effective planning, development, execution, and evaluation of patient engagement plans
  • Develops programs, tactical plans, and coordinates the execution of print and digital tactics aimed at patients, referring healthcare providers and other audiences
  • Effectively investigates leads for patient recruitment and engagement opportunities
  • Responsible for delivering on time, on budget and on scope, book of work to drive business performance and achieve performance targets
  • Responsible for research participation acquisition campaigns
  • Oversees all content used to assist in the recruitment of research patients
  • Provides a launch strategy to include: overall content strategy input, platform recommendations, budget/bid recommendations, image and content recommendations
  • Responsible for revising/refining campaign plans over the course of the campaign based on performance
  • Mentors various team members to ensure the success of campaigns and patient recruitment
  • Develops strategic partnerships that facilitate the execution of efficient, time/cost-effective clinical trials from a patient engagement perspective
  • Identifies patient engagement opportunities and assists in the writing clinical trial proposals
  • Works with partners, consultants, and vendors, ensuring high levels of performance, excellent communication and delivery
  • Existing strong relationships with advocacy groups
  • Successfully establishes trust relationships with influential organizations; ensures that work is always in the best interest of the company and its partners
  • Effectively communicates with and recruits new patients into clinical trials, interacting well with community members and patients from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds
  • Conducts research on leading industry trends that may support or impede the success of the business
  • Assesses and evaluates opportunities and partnerships with companies, organizations and individuals, as appropriate and necessary
  • Identifies paths to address problems, needs, wants, as well as partners
  • Listens and interprets the voice of customers which translates into successful clinical trial campaigns and communicates that to the members of the patient engagement and recruitment team
  • Responsible for selecting and directing agencies and vendors
  • Oversees, mentors and builds patient engagement and recruitment team
  • Effectively communicates the patient engagement and recruitment strategy to executive management, senior leadership, team members, and external stakeholders
  • Conducts performance reviews, calibration sessions and feedback discussions. Performs competency assessments across his/her team, and implements and monitors development plans with direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Clinical research experience
  • Deep expertise in understanding patient dynamics and regulation to drive efficiency and innovation in operational execution of clinical trials recruitment/ retention programs
  • 10+ years of related, marketing (traditional and digital) experience
  • Experience focusing on patient channel operations and clinical trials, preferred
  • Proven expertise in translating insight into patient centered campaign that delivers measurable results
  • Experience with patient marketing programs, strategy and channel operations
  • Experience in delivering comprehensive marketing and communication campaigns
  • Experience in digital marketing strategies
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) around social, earned and owned media
  • Knowledge and work experience in clinical trial and pharmaceutical industries, preferred
  • Proven knowledge of keyword analysis, targeted messaging and keyword bidding management and optimization
