Vast is looking for an Integration Engineer, reporting to the Director, Haven Demo Program, to support the development of the systems required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position in our Long Beach location. 

As an Integration Engineer, you will develop creative solutions to complex assembly and production problems. You will play a critical role in our development and production teams creating integration procedures and processes for efficient manufacturability. Your input will be vital in designing and developing new and existing hardware to support the mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the assembly and inspection procedures for the structural, propulsion and avionics assembly and integration of the spacecraft and launch vehicle. 
  • Ensure integration procedures are continuously evolving to reflect the most efficient assembly practices. 
  • Develop, qualify, and refine manufacturing processes to meet all requirements including safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery.
  • Document and hold Manufacturing and Test Readiness Reviews.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to solve complex production issues.
  • Work with design engineers to evaluate designs for manufacturability and implementation in a continuously evolving production environment.
  • Document and provide resolution to non-conformances and collaborate with the quality team to implement root cause corrective actions.
  • Identify, develop, plan and refine floor layout updates to maximize efficiency in the workflow of production hardware.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace, materials or industrial engineering.
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with the build, assembly, or integration of large mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Experience writing work instructions and procedures for critical aerospace parts in a production environment within the aerospace industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to make independent judgments with limited information.
  • Knowledge of metallic manufacturing techniques, processes, and equipment related to welding, metal forming, fastening, drilling, bonding and automation.
  • Mechanical component and/or tooling design and analysis experience using 3D CAD software, such as Siemens NX.
  • Ability to create and update request for proposals (RFPs), purchase orders (POs) and facilities work orders in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Experience running vehicle level system verifications and leak checks.
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction.
  • 6+ years of related engineering experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones

Pay Range: 

  • Senior Engineer: $135,000-$170,000

Salary Range: California

$135,000$170,000 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
