Honeybee Robotics develops and produces ground-breaking robotics that enable the exploration and utilization of space.
The Role

Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin Company, has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years, establishing ourselves as pioneers in developing novel exploration systems for the most extreme planetary environments. At our Southern California location, we look to "Touch Life" by supporting planetary science, including every NASA Mars rover since Spirit and Opportunity. We aim to "Mine the Sky" through the development of practical In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) solutions. We search for technically brilliant individuals in engineering, software, and support fields who take ownership of their work, enjoy collaborating in teams, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.

Honeybee Robotics is looking for a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer who is skilled in applying engineering principles to oversee the complete lifecycle of avionics systems. You will be responsible for tasks such as requirements derivation, product design, development, fabrication, assembly, testing, validation, and verification. We are seeking a candidate with solid systems engineering expertise, particularly focused on electromechanical and robotic systems, and someone who can showcase strong leadership skills. In this position, you will take the lead in guiding a small team through the development of ultra-reliable systems designed for extreme environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional teams, comprising mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers, throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with teams and customers to define project scope and initial requirements as designs progress from concept to prototype and production.
  • Derive and track requirements for electromechanical systems.
  • Create design specifications to effectively communicate needs to subsystems and suppliers.
  • Develop design plans for the verification and validation of requirements.
  • Read, plan, and modify schedules, or recommend changes as needed.
  • Proactively identify and address roadblocks to technical progress.
  • Review test data and designs, providing recommendations for product and process improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in PCB layout and design, with a focus on aerospace or defense.
  • Action-oriented with a forward-leaning mentality.
  • Strong understanding of digital, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed layout, and design.
  • Experience in designing detailed schematics and layout designs using electrical CAD software such as Altium Designer, Eagle PCB, Proteus, etc.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as IPC-6012 and IPC-2220 Class 3.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of PCB best design practices for design, manufacturing, and testing, including PCB assembly to IPC Class 3 standards.
  • Experience in defining and tracking requirements for electromechanical or robotic systems.
  • Full-cycle development experience, including proposal, planning, design, and production.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on design documentation and report generation.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Employee Benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, and short and long-term disability.
  • 401(k) with immediate vesting and a 6% company match (100% on the first 3% and 50% on the next 3%).
  • Education Reimbursement for certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs.
  • Paid Time Off includes 4 weeks per year, paid parental leave, two floating, and 11 company holidays.

See your work make an impact on some of the most exciting space missions. Work alongside with the best and the brightest, including our partners across the aerospace industry. In a few short years, your contributions will allow you to point to Mars, the Moon, or Saturn's moon Titan, and say, "I did that!"
