As Senior Chemist, you’ll lead the effort to formulate and deliver new color cosmetic products that align with business needs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine color cosmetic formulas, including color matching, troubleshooting, stability testing, and other activities related to formulation development such as monitoring quality and conformity of formulas with final commercial packaging
• Formulate various types of pigmented cosmetic products: powders (dry/loose), creams, gels, hot pours (sticks)
• Develop prototype formulas from via reverse engineering and improve existing formula technologies
• Translate lab scale batches to develop industrial scale processing procedures
• Possess strong understanding of raw materials and translating that knowledge into formulating effective products. Identify raw materials and technologies suitable for product development
• Receive, document, and organize incoming raw materials and samples
• Submit formulas for analytical, microbiology and safety testing, as needed
• Prepare ingredient listings and proofread ILs & artwork
• Attend trade shows and SCC, BIW meetings as necessary to broaden knowledge
• Maintain a laboratory notebook and follow lab procedures with attention to details
• Be obsessed with product quality and performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Science, Chemistry preferred
• 4+ years technical experience in the cosmetic industry (working on the bench formulating and developing color cosmetic products) – powders and/or emulsion experience required
• 3+ years experience in color matching pigmented beauty products
• Skincare formulation experience and knowledge – an added plus
• Ability to understand processing procedures, formula cost implications, cosmetic ingredient roles and functions
• Ability to proactively identify and manage technical program challenges and provide alternative solutions
• Experience and familiarity working with RM suppliers
• Flexible, entrepreneurial, resourceful, self-starting, open-minded, and thinks outside of the box
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• In-depth experience managing products from conception to launch, through testing, scale up and transition to manufacturing (product development life cycle) 
• Some familiarity with FDA regulatory standards and GMPs
