Wash is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator with deep knowledge and broad experience across Microsoft-based technologies. This employee will be a member of the Information Technology Services team and will support all Wash personnel. The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment. The Senior Systems Administrator should be a self-starter, self-motivator and possess ingenuity to excel at this position.

Senior Systems Administrator – Windows/Cloud

Wash is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator with deep knowledge and broad experience across Microsoft-based technologies. This employee will be a member of the Information Technology Services team and will support all Wash personnel. The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment. The Senior Systems Administrator should be a self-starter, self-motivator and possess ingenuity to excel at this position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with other Wash developers and engineers to gather requirements, research, evaluate, design, plan, deploy, and support Microsoft enterprise software platforms and related technologies in a world-class environment that meets the needs of the demanding Wash engineering teams. Build highly-resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible systems.
  • Exercise a high degree of responsibility for the processes, systems, and tools you create and manage;
  • Make recommendations, justify, and implement improvements using an accepted change control methodology.
  • Work within a diverse group to design and deliver creative solutions and resolve problems in a timely and proactive manner by interacting with internal business units.
  • Define, document and follow standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation.
  • Drive scripting and automation to develop solutions to common problems.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Maintains and manages day to day efforts of the datacenter, server operating systems, storage and networking.
  • Assisting service desk staff with system level troubleshooting
  • Monitor processes and tools ensuring system availability and up-time
  • System administration and maintenance of our hosted infrastructure (on-premise & cloud)
  • Working with a development and testing staff to identify requirements and implement solutions
  • The position requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and the individual must possess a structured, methodical approach to systems development and administration.
  • Documenting processes and procedures
  • Willingness to be on-call

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Experience with networking configuration and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Chef
  • Understanding of the Microsoft .Net framework
  • Understanding of and experience with PowerShell
  • Experience with a combination of open source and Microsoft technologies
  • Experience with Windows system administration
  • Understanding of standard networking communication as well as internet protocols

Time commitments:

  • Evening and weekend time may be required for, but not limited to, and activities that would negatively impact the production environment, or elevate the risk of negatively affecting the production environment.
  • 24x7 Pager Duty Rotation amongst team members for emergencies

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university required
  • 6+ years of experience in IT systems administration in a Windows environment
  • Hands-on Experience with Windows Servers in physical and virtualized environments
  • Hands-on Implementation experience with Active Directory, Kerberos, and multi-platform authentication/identification environments.
  • Hands-on Implementation experience with Storage Array Networks (NetApp/EMC)
  • Hands-on Experience with virtualized infrastructure (VMWare, HyperV)
  • Hands-on Experience with monitoring and APM tools such as Nagios, Icinga, SCOM, SolarWinds, New Relic, AppDynamics, etc.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures, with high availability, fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring, and statistics/metrics collection.
  • Expert working knowledge (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) Windows-based systems and services such as DHCP, DNS, IIS, MS-SQL, NPS, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL including replication and failover
  • Experience with configuration management, provisioning, infrastructure as code, and other DevOps concepts and tools
  • Expert level familiarity with Windows Server 2016/19 and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Networking experience in IPv4, switching, routing, firewalls and HA architecture
  • Proven track record of learning and adapting to new technologies
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to support multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong debugging and performance analysis skills
  • Must be comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations.
