Job Summary:
The Systems Engineer is responsible to support the rapidly growing infrastructure, the existing private cloud, public cloud, and storage initiatives across the organization. The role provides high-level technical design and implementation for systems and storage, maintains documentation, maintains hardware and software standards, and executes projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved infrastructure equipment and procedures.
Job Expectations:
- Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
- Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Proactively ensure high levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
- Oversee various data center environments and colocation
- Configuration and support of Windows Active Directory
- Configuration and support of SAN’s (Compellent, Netapp)
- Participate in site capacity planning and modeling
- Provide general IT support for system and applications requests or issues
- Monitor and support servers and network in a production environment
- Research, analyze, and recommend new solutions and technologies
- Update documentation of configuration of systems
- Participate in the team on-call support rotation and for any system outages
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Solid knowledge of MS Windows 2008/2012
- Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux in a production environment
- Solid knowledge of MS Active Directory including support for multiple domains
- Working knowledge of scripting languages including powershell
- Extensive knowledge of Virtual System Environment (VMWare ESX)
- 2+ years of public cloud provider in a production environment, AWS preferred
- Extensive knowledge of Blade Server Technologies (Cisco UCS)
- Working knowledge of data backup strategies and tools
- Familiarity with PCI/DSS and SOX
- Experience with SAN devices (Netapp and/or Compellent)
- Knowledge of Flexpod Architecture a plus
- MSSQL Clustering/Always On Experience
- VMware Certificates VCP, VCAP, VCIX a plus
- Netapp certification a plus
- Must be analytical, organized, and detail oriented, conscientious of time commitments and management’s requests
Experience and Education:
- requires 4 years’ experience as a Systems Engineer
- Associates Degree Required. An emphasis in Computer Science or Information Systems is preferred
