Job Purpose

The IT Sr Systems Engineer is responsible for deploying and maintaining Canoo computer and cloud networks and related computing environments including systems software, application software, hardware, cloud computing, and configurations. Deploys and maintains network, physical and cloud infrastructure and services in support of Canoo business goals. In conjunction with the security engineer, they are responsible for protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the research and development of Information Technology solutions to meet Canoo needs. They are responsible for setting up of the IT infrastructure, management, and monitoring systems and provide tier 3 support for troubleshooting problems.

Responsibilities and Goals

  • Responsible for the delivering on and the overall portfolio of IT operations projects
  • Works with more junior members of the team to mentor and provide guidance
  • Write information technology policies and procedures
  • Write network, operating system, application, and cloud systems best practices using industry standards
  • Perform day to day activities and administration for Information Technology operations
  • Work with security for vulnerability remediation
  • Respond to tier 2/3 service requests and escalations
  • Responsible for the administration and management of software systems, software inventory, application deployment, and maintenance
  • Ability to act as lead in IT operations and initiatives


  • In the process of a 4-year degree in a technical discipline or experience/interest in Information Technology
  • Strong background in IT vendor management and contracts
  • Strong background in Project Management in agile environments
  • Strong background and interest in statistics and/or analytics
  • Working knowledge for the administration and protocols for wired and wireless networking from Aruba, Cisco, Meraki
  • Basic understanding of network security protocols, concepts and practices
  • Some experience with security products and systems a plus
  • Knowledge of cloud based identity and access systems such as Okta, Jumpcloud, Azure/Office 365, Active Directory
  • Experience with networking products from Juniper, Cisco, Dell, HP
  • Experience with server technology from Lenovo, Dell, HP
  • Experience with security technologies from Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto Networks, Meraki
  • Setup and operations of desktop management solutions from Microsoft or Symantec
  • Deployment of endpoint protection solutions from Trend Micro, Symantec, McAfee
  • Setup and administration of monitor solutions from Nagios
  • Familiarity and understanding of web development using Windows and LAMP Stack
  • Familiarity with the setup, administration, and troubleshooting of databases
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl to help automate routine tasks
  • Familiarity with Voip and video conference solutions such as Zoom, Webex, Blue Jean, Skype for Business
  • Clear understanding of Information Technology Security needs and solutions
