The University of Southern California’s (USC’s) Information Technology Services is seeking a talented Director for the Los Nettos Regional Network with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join its team. As the Los Nettos Director, you will be an integral member of the Infrastructure Services team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to help solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for stakeholders across a broad base of departments and constituencies.

ABOUT LOS NETTOS

Created in 1988 to provide cost-effective connections to the Internet for local campuses and research institutes, today the Los Nettos Regional Network continues to provide connectivity to Los Angeles area educational and research organizations with its state-of-the-art optical network supporting campuses, researchers and faculty interested in high-performance data transfers, software-defined networks, and experimentation with next-generation technologies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate for the position of Los Nettos Director must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, computer science, computer information systems, etc. or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Eight years of experience in information technology. Three years of experience in a management or leadership role.
  • Proven experience overseeing large-scale network implementations and upgrades
  • Experience delivering reliable and quality network service within a higher education or similar environment.
  • Proven experience managing budgets, conducting financial forecasting and developing strategic plans both for technology and funding.
  • Extensive managerial experience formulating, planning, leading, directing, and controlling a complex, broad, and highly technical service.
  • Anticipates customer needs and future and emerging trends and is able to articulate a vision and strategy that motivates others to action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships and negotiate with vendors.
  • Ability to exercise director level responsibilities associated with finance, budgeting, personnel, and facilities.
  • Proven ability to build, develop, and manage a diverse high-performing team. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to give presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work calmly and effectively in pressure situations.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills and consensus building skills.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply pertinent policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements.
  • Experience successfully writing or contributing to grant proposals.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members; demonstrated experience in leading a multifunctional team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the position of Los Nettos Director has the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business management, engineering, computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • More than ten years of experience information technology. Five or more years of experience in a management or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
  • Is a persuasive and effective communicator with the ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders and with experience presenting the business side of technical topics to non-technical audiences.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Los Nettos Director:

  • Is accountable for the development of team members by helping them set and achieve goals for their career growth and fosters an inclusive environment that values differences and creates a sense of belonging and appreciation among team members.
  • Provides vision and high-level direction for the Los Nettos regional network.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with Los Nettos member and associates, ITS leaders, customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Works closely with Los Nettos Board of Directors, Los Nettos Technical Committee and ITS leadership to identify, implement, and support cost-effective, leading solutions for all aspects of the Los Nettos network and other related projects.
  • Strategizes about technology approaches for Los Nettos infrastructure, Los Nettos associate and consortium programs, and additional advanced technologies to provide excellent customer service and fulfill changing business and academic needs.
  • Negotiates agreements, contracts and other legal documents in collaboration with USC procurement and legal counsel in support of the network and in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Creates and manages the budget and expenditures for the network and creates strategic plans.
  • Represents the Los Nettos regional network at conferences and meetings, and gives presentations both internally and externally to highlight the network performance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
