Vast is looking for a Materials Testing Technician, reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate material mechanical testing including review of data for inclusion in a central materials database
  • Operate equipment to measure and analyze material properties such as tensile strength, fatigue life, and surface roughness
  • Generate and track quality metrics of the materials testing lab
  • Organize all material testing data and present key findings
  • Create standard operating procedures for all mechanical testing equipment
  • Develop testing strategies for metallic and non-metallic production parts
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand material requirements for various projects, including space station and rocket engine manufacturing
  • Ability to interpret and develop testing processes to meet industry standards and requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of experience in metal mechanical material test preparation

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of metallic material properties, industry standards, and testing best practices
  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards such as ASTM and NASA specifications
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing industries is highly preferred
  • Excellent organizational, written communication, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in using materials testing software and tools such as tensile testing, fatigue testing, elevated temperature mechanical testing, cryogenic mechanical testing, fracture toughness, creep testing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities       
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Salary Range: California

$28$35 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
