In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends and has since gone on to become the most played PC game in the world and a key driver of the dramatic growth of esports. Publishing’s role is to introduce our products to players and form authentic relationships with them through compelling storytelling.

Publishing at Riot covers several Disciplines - Brand, Communications, Creative Leadership and Video Production - all working together to deliver content that will resonate with our passionate players.

These disciplines exist to build Riot’s reputation and identity worldwide, and to champion player identity and fulfillment. We elevate our talented development teams and celebrate players through our broad communication ecosystem.

For Publishing, having a player-focused mindset is vital; we’re not here to be the center of attention. The team includes people with a wide array of experiences, from savvy veterans to green rookies, who all share a love of gaming and the belief we can always grow and improve in our craft.

A chief edict at Riot is to ensure the exterior our players and partners see is matched by how we see ourselves. We expect our Publishing teams to exemplify that spirit in all they do, and to empower and inspire Rioters at all levels to craft the best player experience possible.

As a Communications Strategist, you are responsible for developing exceptional communications strategy for product teams. You're a messaging expert who can craft and direct player-facing comms for clarity, purpose, and intent. When others in the organization need advice and support for their communications challenges, you'll be a trusted consult. The best comms strategists strive to deeply understand players so they can speak their language and communicate with empathy.

You will represent products from League's PIE (personalization items and in-game events) initiative. You'll develop strategies for direct-to-player communications and work to tactically execute them in written and visual form, partnering as needed with other internal teams, e.g. videographers, editors, etc.

You'll also work with League's live balance team to craft clear, consistent messaging about the ongoing changes to League of Legends. To effectively level up our communications vehicles like the League patch notes, you'll need to serve as a link between devs and players. Learning how to understand and represent both players' and developers' viewpoints will be crucial.

Skills and Responsibilities-

  • Generate exceptional communications strategy—don't just execute but can drive and augment direction where required
  • Act as an expert comms craftsperson within your product team, crafting and directing player-facing comms for clarity, purpose, and intent
  • Discover and understand international player pain, and then bring that to bear in product feedback
  • Prioritize your own work and help your product/initiative team prioritize and recognize wider communications goals
  • Track your own personal growth and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Act as a go-to consult for other communications folks; offering valuable feedback and knowledge based on experience

Don’t forget to include a resume and cover letter. We receive a lot of applications, but we’ll notice a fun, well-written intro that shows us you take play seriously.
