Who we're looking for

We’re looking for a Head of Public Relations & Communications that can help build our company and lead our communications function from scratch. In this significant role, you will lead all communications and public relations efforts including strategy, messaging, and execution of PR plans. You’ll work closely with our founders and executives, and collaborate closely with the marketing, content, and product teams.

A successful candidate understands the media landscape, is quick to catch newsworthy trends and can devise a compelling story where Honeybee is positioned as a trusted resource with media and consumers.

The role reports to the CMO/Co-founder.

Responsibilities:

• Build and lead the communications team from scratch, hiring and managing an external agency and building a team.
• Identify opportunities that position Honeybee as a trusted resource for media and consumers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key media publications, securing quality coverage on a frequent basis.
• Build our spokesperson program from the ground up, and assist in building their authority and brand within the industry.

• Write and edit PR content including press releases, pitches, strategic plans, bios, and other materials

• Conduct outreach to organizations, companies, influencers, and others to build strong relationships with Honeybee and achieve business results

• Work with the marketing and content teams to identify and pitch content that is newsworthy

• Test new ideas and establish a culture of innovation

What we’re looking for:

• Media expertise and skills: You develop and maintain key relationships with media and identify proactive and targeted pitching opportunities.

• Strategic thinking and communication: You identify and develop pitches quickly based on news cycles, identify trends that are newsworthy and develop novel tactics to position Honeybee

• Proactivity and strong execution: You are skilled at planning, prioritizing and executing on multiple projects while meeting deadlines. You work well under pressure and maintain strong communication with all stakeholders

• Project management: You are an executor and effective at aligning different parties to drive results in a timely fashion.

Your experience:

• 2-4 years experience in PR or communications (working within Consumer and/or Health is preferred)

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or a related field

• Maintain awareness of current news and events, changes in national and local media and overall financial trends

• Experience working and supporting spokespeople

• Self-motivated, fast learner, and strategic thinker; able to achieve high impact in a dynamic environment

• Entrepreneurial spirit in helping build out a new business and communications program for the company
