Modern Animal is seeking an entrepreneurial problem solver to join our team as the first Growth Strategy Manager and help fuel our mission to improve the lives of pets, pet parents, and the healthcare partners who take care of them. We are a fast-growing startup backed by top-tier venture capital firms (including Founders Fund, True Ventures, and Upfront Ventures) and have an experienced entrepreneurial team from both the veterinary industry and leading companies such as Uber, Allbirds, Blue Bottle, and Sweetgreen. 


This role will be responsible for driving our strategic growth initiatives, commercial partnerships, and growth product roadmap to help set the company’s long-term competitive positioning. This role is highly cross-functional and requires regular communication with the leadership team and other internal partners to drive strategic alignment.


The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can think strategically and analytically while simultaneously managing and executing the day-to-day work necessary to achieve our goals. You must have experience with blending analytics and creativity to scope and solve complex problems, the ability to think about the short and long-term goals of a market, and experience managing projects from start to finish. This role will report directly to the Head of Growth.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Work with cross-functional leadership in the ideation, technical development, concept testing, and launch of Modern Animal’s growth initiatives, such as new verticals and offerings. 
  • Develop user stories and roadmap to maximize the reach and impact of our technology, leveraging data and metrics to support your recommendations.
  • Create a robust experimentation framework that connects learning to business results.
  • Evaluate and manage external vendors and partners needed to bring new offerings to market.
  • You must deeply understand Modern Animal’s business model and consumer value in order to drive strategic recommendations and strategy. 
  • Develop cross-functional process and system improvements to continually raise the bar of execution across the Growth team.

You’d be a great fit:

  • 3-5 years of experience in growth strategy implementation, strategic planning, and/or sophisticated market analysis
  • Background in product management and/or business development strongly preferred.
  • Proven abilities to ask the right questions and to use sound business judgment when collaborating with a wide range of partners
  • Effective communicator, able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing; comfortable in business and technical discussions
  • Self-starter who leans into the challenge and can multitask in fast-paced and often ambiguous environments
  • Based in Los Angeles, or willing to relocate
