Our Supply Chain team is seeking a Demand Planner based in Los Angeles to help support the growth of our company.

 Core Responsibilities                                                                                                       

  • Forecast ingredient level quantity requirements based on sales forecasts and historical trend analysis
  • Lead and develop a robust S&OP process, working closely with cross-functional teams (FP&A, Marketing, Ops Services, Culinary, Supply Chain, etc.)
  • Own demand planning KPIs (i.e. MAPE, Bias) and metric tracking to increase forecast accuracy
  • Analyze deviations from forecast and partner with supply chain to optimize stock levels and mitigate shortages/overages
  • Drive continuous improvement on forecasting methodologies and business inputs

Key 2021 Projects

  • Provide rolling 12-18 month forecasts by region updated monthly to account for sales trends, seasonal launches, and forecast accuracy
  • Improve company wide metrics around  forecast error and set realistic quarterly improvement targets
  • Prepare key supply chain inputs for monthly S&OP meetings and help shape best practices for continued development of future sessions

How to Support our Stores and Increase our Supply Chain Transparency

Forecast ingredient quantity needs

  • Own the forecast for all ingredients and packaging used by sweetgreen locations
  • Develop and plan seasonal ingredient and Limited Time Offering (LTO) forecasts for both short term launch as well as long term planning
  • Perform ad hoc forecasts as needed for specific ingredients, new items, and contract renewals
  • Develop a communication methodology and cadence to share forecasts with Top Tier suppliers
  • Be the point person for supply chain managers and supply partners for all things related to ingredient forecasts

Analyze deviations from forecast

  • Track and report purchases compared to forecast and adjust the supply forecast accordingly
  • Analyze forecast performance and drive year over year improvements in accuracy
  • If supply shortages (or overages) are expected, partner with supply chain managers to update forecast quantities, determine resupply quantities, and communicate to suppliers, distributors, and restaurant operators
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify root cause for deviation, whether that is recipe and prep variance, unexpected waste, higher/lower sales, marketing events, operator error, etc.

Cross-functionally manage the Sales and Operating Plan (S+OP) process

  • For the Supply Chain team, lead the S+OP process and forecasting meetings before each seasonal launch 
  • Gather pertinent information needed to create a seasonal ingredient forecast by partnering with our Culinary, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain Teams
  • Using statistical forecasting methodology, create a forecast for each seasonal ingredient by region and week
  • Determine the quantity of each ingredient to ship to each restaurant for launch of the new menu and share forecasts with supply chain managers and operations managers
  • Continue to develop and improve the seasonal S+OP Process

Improve our current forecasting process and tools

  • Utilize statistical forecasting methods to create increasingly more accurate and real time forecasts
  • Improve current tools to capture more information that affects forecast (accuracy, holidays, sales trends, historical trends, etc.)
  • Using SQL, or other methods, create a forecast dashboard that automates much of the data gathering, updates in real time, and is viewable for supply chain team members 
  • Collaborate to develop a forecast tool for restaurant operators to utilize to aid in purchasing decisions
  • Join real estate, digital, and operations teams to understand and incorporate the launch of new restaurants, markets, and sales channels
  • Develop long term (18+ month) views to help our farm partners crop plan
  • Long term - implement a software supplier portal to share real time forecasts with suppliers and distributors

 Desired Traits & Experience

  • Desire to build an unparalleled food supply chain that supports farmers, sweetgreen, and our customers
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Mathematics, Engineering or related field
  • 2-5 years experience in demand planning, production planning, supply planning, or manufacturing. Experience with fresh produce supply chains preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills (data modeling, pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, macros, conditional formatting, data validation, etc.)
  • Experience with Tableau, SQL, or other querying languages
  • Experience leading Sales and Operations Planning process
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Netsuite, JD Edwards, etc.)
  • Ability to present data analysis in a clear and concise manner to all levels of management
  • Ability to successfully handle many projects at once
  • Proficient time management, task management, and project prioritization skills
