Stem empowers independent artists to build a sustainable business. Much of a creator’s independence is rooted in financial freedom and literacy. We offer artists, managers, and labels the tools and clarity they need to distribute their music, collect and split royalties from digital platforms, and surface data to analyze and promote their catalog.

Stem offers a forward-thinking digital music distribution service and pioneered consensus-based splits to help artists get paid and easily pay their collaborators.  As a financial software for music, we are on a mission to demystify financial concepts for artists and their teams, that’s where you come in. Our ideal Content Marketing Coordinator is a creative self-starter who can both editorialize a release and explain how points on a record are calculated for a producer.   Stem’s ethos is to speak to artists as entrepreneurs and our brand impact is best amplified through our artists’ accomplishments using our platform. We are looking for someone who loves highlighting emerging artists and building community in online spaces, who will quickly learn our artist/label roster and will stay close to our account managers to identify key Stem releases and cultural moments to celebrate across our social channels.

This role will also be responsible for managing the Stem blog and email marketing, cross-functional initiatives to build new audiences, educate and engage our current ones, and ensure we are positioned as a thought leader in our space.

This role could be part-time or full-time depending on competencies.  It is based in Los Angeles, CA at our West Hollywood office.

What you’ll do:

  • Own social strategy, content creation, and implementation across key social channels

  • Manage the Stem blog, collaborating cross-functionally to create new ideas for headlines, content partnerships, blog franchises, case studies, educational content, and more to to engage new audiences

  • Engage and manage freelance writers/artists, reviewing and editing submissions as needed

  • Deftly manage the community we are building

  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure all content is optimized for company priorities and SEO

  • Develop email marketing initiatives for Stem that support our artists’ releases, Stem brand, and product news

  • Analyze and report weekly on traffic KPIs for owned channels and synthesize learnings into future strategy

  • Plug in social strategy and content capture to key internal and external events, highlighting Stem and its company culture

  • Collaborate with People Operations to create content for Stem’s employer brand channels (Linkedin, Built in LA, website)

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Is a content producer, writer & strategist — equally comfortable generating posts as you are developing new ideas and rolling them out

  • Is proficient in Photoshop or Canva

  • Is fluent in the constantly evolving language spoken in online spaces and can adopt it in an authentic way for a brand

  • Loves bringing a brand to life via social media

  • Has a deep knowledge & passion for pop culture, digital trends, music, and technology, as well as an understanding of the myriad places where artist editorial is thriving

  • Has 2-3 years experience in digital marketing, with an emphasis on music, business, entertainment, and/or fintech.  Extensive personal experience counts

  • Strong understanding of content marketing partnerships for music & tech

  • Has impeccable written & verbal communication skills and can spot a typo from a mile away

  • Can easily adopt & communicate within Stem’s voice & tone guidelines, and then teach it to others

  • Has excellent judgement and can evaluate content before posting to ensure it is on-brand, inclusive and culturally sensitive

  • Can create campaigns across owned, earned & paid channels

  • Can deliver, track & optimize across KPIs

  • Will manage time effectively, balance priorities & meet deadlines for multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

  • (Nice to have) Has experience managing freelancers & digital assets: photography, key art, social assets, etc.

Location

As of 2020, we are a fully remote company. The majority of our team is split between southern California and New York/New Jersey, however, we have a handful of domestic employees sprinkled in-between and international employees located in Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, England, and Japan!

An Insider's view of Stem Disintermedia

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

As a working mother of 3 who holds a management position at Stem, it's so refreshing that the organization means what they say when they talk about work life balance! I have been able to work around my families schedules (emergencies, school conflicts, etc.) without exception - all while feeling the full support of my manager, department, and team.

Andrea

Director of Product

What projects are you most excited about?

It is a very interesting time to work at the intersection of music and technology. There are wild inefficiencies across music that can be solved with technology, more specifically financial technology. We are building offerings that can radically change music's market dynamics.

Kristin

President of Stem Distribution

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I showed up at Stem as a fresh-faced postgrad -- the leadership team here has given me dozens of opportunities to take on exciting new projects, work with incredible clients, and manage crucial functions of the business. I've also been fortunate enough to give some of those same opportunities to rising stars on the team over the years.

Bobby

VP of Artist & Label Relations

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

I help my team be creative by providing them with the strategic context they need to drive strategic choices in their work rather than waiting on leadership for guidance. And I provide plenty of space for them to tell me they need more support or more resources.

Charleton

Head of Marketing

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

Making a living as an artist is incredibly challenging, so empowering artists to build their own business using our tools is a really exciting prospect. I'm a big believer that the most impactful cultural and artistic innovations grow out of local arts communities and small businesses, so I'm very enthusiastic about supporting that ecosystem.
