Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played PC game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.

We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

That's where you come in.

As a Communications Strategist for Creative Development, you'll help players (and Rioters) worldwide stay informed about what's happening in the development of League's IP. You'll do this by crafting nuanced messaging for a variety of IP content and representing the player perspective in publishing discussions, working with brand managers and product owners to ensure the we nail the positioning. You'll also generate and implement holistic communication plans, acting as a force multiplier for strategic communication efforts across a variety of teams involved with the IP in both CDev and Core LoL.

You're not a typical communicator - in fact, you're ready to press "skip" on the standard corporate song-and-dance and play something players actually want to listen to. You strive to communicate with a balance of transparency and clarity that's smart, well-crafted, and authentic. You understand that communication isn't just about firefighting; you're interested in ongoing, lively two-way conversations between Rioters and players on the issues that matter most to the League community.

You are:

  • A savvy strategist: the challenges of communicating about the League IP are complex and contentious; your painstakingly-authentic and player-focused answers are precisely aimed because of your ability and willingness to rigorously analyze problems from all angles
  • Powered by perspective: you know how to get the visibility you need to make the tough calls, even when you're out of position and a teamfight is about to break; you know how to share nuanced decisions with players and Rioters alike, even when we're delivering big changes or controversial news
  • An empathetic mediator: your growth-oriented mindset means you aim to thoroughly understand - and empathize with - all perspectives before taking action; as the bridge between worldviews, you want to help others understand, even if it means admitting we're wrong
  • A consummate craftsperson: you're in command of the English language and immersed in player culture; be it a RiotNet post, Nexus article, /dev diary script, or Reddit meme, you can communicate in multiple styles and tones, crafting clear messages that leave no room for misunderstanding, gaffe, or offense
  • Armed with insight: like the 5-star chef knows their kitchen, you understand the current channels and best practices to serve up whatever a communication calls for; you keep an open mind and sharp eye for opportunities to expand your repertoire, and aren't afraid to try out new recipes to see what works
  • Experienced: you'll be able to draw on 3+ years of experience in Communications, Brand Management, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields; but where you worked matters less than what your worked on - and what you learned in the process
  • Culturally astute: you're a native gamer who takes play very seriously, but you're not provincial or snobby about it; you're a cultural polyglot who groks the meme of the day, the proto-meme, the meta-meme and the uber-meme

You will:

  • Elevate the quality of communications from CDev to players with creative, effective strategies other teams at Riot will be eager to replicate; your work won't just set the bar, it'll lay the foundation for the future
  • Systematically and efficiently develop holistic communications that address not just the current crisis, but potential bumps down the road; you'll collaborate with teams across the org to ensure we're always looking at the big picture
  • Work with partner teams within Riot to improve our relationships and collaboration; you'll ensure that CDev is successful in communicating internally as well as externally, and that Rioters are on board with what we're trying to do
  • Evaluate areas of opportunity where communication tools, methods, and channels can be buffed for greater success, then lead the way in making it the new meta
  • Keep a finger on the pulse of the League community, surfacing obstacles to connecting with players and opportunities to share how we think about creative and IP development as a company
  • Build an authentic relationship with players and Rioters through transparent, thoughtful, and resonant messaging that's certified 100% bullshit-free

Don’t forget to include a resume and cover letter. We receive a lot of applications, but we’ll notice a fun, well-written intro that shows us you take play seriously.

Include three samples of your best work, ideally stuff that will appeal to gamers and geeks like us. Where (or if) they're published matters less than how they read.
After much debate in the community (and in Riot), we recently shared the decision to develop a "practice tool" for League players. Show us how you would have handled it: give us your ideas on how you would have announced the practice tool - both internally to Rioters and externally to players.
