 What We’re Looking For:
The Sidebench apprenticeship program is a 6-month full-time paid developmental program that is designed to provide the Apprentice with valuable & meaningful first-hand experience within a specific discipline.

We’re looking for a motivated recent college graduate who is looking to gain insight into UX and UI design practices within the tech and consulting industry.

Apprenticeship Details:
We invest a lot of time into all of our Apprentices in the hopes that after their 6-month contract ends, they’ll be able to join our team full-time. During the Apprenticeship you will:

  • Gain significant exposure to marketing and communications practices within one of the fastest growing digital product consultancies in the US
  • Do impactful work that contributes to the greater goals of the Sidebench team
  • Be challenged to think big, creatively solve problems, and turn solutions into processes
  • Have a dedicated mentor throughout the apprenticeship who is there to help guide you and provide regular, structured feedback
  • Work with and learn from a team of smart, friendly, and fun techies who care about your development

Responsibilities:
As a UX/UI Design Apprentice at Sidebench, you will work with a talented and experienced team to grow your talents and reach your potential. You will have the unique opportunity to work with diverse perspectives through engaging and effective workshops. You will challenge assumptions, break down silos, and investigate problems to gather key insights. You will dive into our client’s DNA, conduct research to understand their customers, and strategically plan for impactful features. You will prototype at various fidelities fluidly, and facilitate feedback from users, the client, and the product team.

We’re always open to new ideas, processes, and tools. We welcome thought leaders that evoke positive changes in our processes and culture and we expect team players that are adaptable to such improvements. During your time with us, your day to day responsibilities will be: 

  • Participate in various interactive workshops with clients and team members to uncover insights, bridge gaps, reveal new perspectives, and generate ideas
  • Assist in the user interview process to dig deeper into user goals, pain points, and current workflows
  • Work with team to prioritize features, define an MVP, and create the product road-map
  • Produce prototypes of various fidelities for iOS, Android, and Web-based platforms
  • Review concepts with clients and facilitate effective feedback
  • Work with product managers and business development to provide deliverable estimates, develop project plans and timelines
  • Build healthy and trusting client relationships
  • Work collaboratively with team members to solve problems and iterate on solutions
  • Produce client deliverables in a timely manner

Qualifications:
We are looking for a self-starter who has some previous experience in a UX or UI Design role. Our ideal candidate also has:

  • 1-2 years of experience in UX/UI Design whether through a job, internship or classroom opportunity
  • Experience with common UX deliverables: user personas, user journeys, wireframes, and mockups
  • Experience conducting user research and user testing 
  • ​​​​​​Portfolio that demonstrates experience designing for web & mobile
  • Solid conceptualization ability, visual communication, drawing skills, and sketchbook technique
  • Strong aesthetic sense and foundation of visual design basics
  • Genuine interest in technology and business and the desire to learn more about UX/UI Design
  • Leadership experience in the classroom, workplace, or at a similar type of organization
  • The ability to work independently and go above and beyond the original scope of their tasks
  • Strong research and analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Extreme attention to detail and the ability to proactively 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive attitude and remains responsive, pro-active, enthusiastic, and adaptable
  • Ability to produce detailed and well-organized documentation (have a knack for effectively summarizing concepts, thoughts, and research)
  • Must be able to commit to a full-time role for a period of 6 months

Compensation

Apprentices are paid $12 an hour with the expectation that after successfully completing the Apprenticeship, they will be offered a competitive full-time salary.
