In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends and has since gone on to become the most played PC game in the world and a key driver of the explosive growth of esports. Delivering visually stunning experiences for a global audience while also building new games gives artists exciting and complex problems to solve. Here, artists are working not only with one another, but also side-by-side with game designers, narrative writers, and audio designers and engineers to ensure that each piece of content from Riot reaches the level of quality players deserve. From animations to illustrations, cinematics to comics, characters to environments, we work as a team to put players first.

That's where you come in.

Intern with the Riot Art team:

If you can see it in the game, you're seeing the Art team's work.
We're looking for artists who're just as passionate about League of Legends as they are art. Maybe you haven't won a Polycount or an Artstation competition yet, but you're on track. You marry your masterful technical skills and passion for games while understanding that game art's ultimately about creating better overall experiences. Whether it be 2D, 3D, animations or VFX, you embrace the finer points of artistic aesthetics, including light, color, value, form, and composition. As an Art intern, you may work in the following roles:

  • Animator: You'll bring champions to life through classic animation principles and body mechanics. You will create high quality animations for a diverse and rapidly growing universe, including bipeds, quadrupeds, and monsters.
  • Character Artist: You will bring champions to life by creating and texturing high and low poly models. Your sculpting skills, artistic eye and keen understanding of anatomy, form, and color will lead the way in character creation. Working within both technical and design constraints, you will use your knowledge of proportions, anatomy and readability to ensure models are optimized in game.
  • Concept Artist: You will generate ideas and craft designs that are resonant, compelling and iconic. As a problem solver, first and foremost, you will help come up with visual solutions for game concepts and world building.
  • Environment Artist: You will channel your knowledge of concepting, modeling, and texturing to help tell stories through visually compelling environments that elevate the purpose and mood of the game.
  • Illustrator: You'll put stylus to Cintiq and create splash art that represents the essence of a champion to millions of players. You will use your artistic eye and understanding of dynamic lighting, form, and color to tell concise and evocative stories.
  • Technical Artist: You will jump into any art pipeline, whether it's environment, character or another artistic discipline, to help maintain, build and support the team's 3D tools.
  • VFX Artist: You will design and help implement the sleek, dynamic and dramatic special effects that add atmosphere and depth to gameplay.
  • Visual Designer: You will aim to create the best player experiences through your knowledge of systemic problem solving, graphic design, interactivity, layout, typography, color theory and illustration. You will collaborate with cross disciplinary teams and act as both an artistic and design problem solver.

To be eligible for an internship within the Art discipline you should:

  • Be enrolled full-time in an accredited school/university or relative program
  • Be returning to university following your internship for a minimum of 1 school term

To apply:

  • Please read through the internship page before applying. It includes helpful information that’ll increase your chances at landing the gig.
  • Your application must include a cover letter and resume. In your application pitch, share your Summoner Name and experience with League of Legends, what you want to learn and what we can learn from you. Help us understand why you're right for this team by sharing what you've done that's truly above and beyond and how that may relate to this internship opportunity. There are 99 ways to impress us, but an average pitch ain't one.
  • In your cover letter, please answer the following questions:
    • Why are you interested in working at Riot Games?
    • What team are you most interested in working with and why?
    • Describe your most memorable gaming experience (gameplay, events, feature updates, community engagement, etc).

The application deadline for summer 2019 internships is January 4th, 2019Applications received after this date won't be eligible for a Summer 2019 internship. We recognize that a great internship application takes time and effort, so we promise to return the favor of your effort with a response by January 18th, 2019.
