Divergent 3D is on a mission to democratize the design and manufacture of vehicles. We want to enable a future where small entrepreneurial teams across the globe will bring increasingly material and energy efficient transportation solutions to market with a fraction of the capital and time.

The current auto manufacturing system is economically and environmentally broken. Divergent invented a manufacturing system that combines software, additive manufacturing, and assembly technologies to radically reduce the material, energy, time and capital required to design and build vehicles. This will transform the automotive industry from capital intensive to innovation intensive while dramatically reducing the lifecycle environmental impact of vehicles. Over the past two years, the company has been recognized for its disruptive innovation, receiving the Frost & Sullivan Innovation of the Year and the inaugural Petersen Innovation in the Automotive Industry awards as well as being named a Google Moonshot company.

Your Role: Vehicle Structural Engineer

Engineers at D3D have a tremendous opportunity to drive significant results through the design of new process technologies as we launch new products, and processes, and continually strive to improve performance and cost optimization. You will be working for an organization that values a strong collaboration between all Operations functions to ensure we are designing optimal manufacturing processes that are safe, cost effective, reliable and maintainable.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to support the next generation of industry-leading vehicle structural architecture development. We’re committed to transforming the vehicle structural systems away from traditional body in white to a 3D printing enabled system using new materials and new technologies. To do this, we need a forward-looking and innovative engineer who will help shape the future of automotive structures.

• Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations

• Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing

• Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and support prototype and production build activities

What You Have:

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Prior experience using advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals) to achieve lightweight structural solutions

• 5+ years of track record of shipping robust and maintainable commercial products through a full cycle development process

• 5+ years of CAD and CAE experience

• Ability to thrive and deliver results in a startup environment

• Solid interpersonal skills, capable of managing a small team and interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints

• Knowledge of vehicle systems and requirements a plus
