Note: Engineer must be local, but partial remote work will be considered

Ever meet someone who works at Jumpcut? You should -- our people are amazing. Here’s the good news: our 2019 growth plans are already aggressively underway. Most of our technical team is remote; but we've just brought on a Director of Engineering to help us build out the core LA team, and we're starting with 2-3 engineers.

Jumpcut is a Y Combinator company, and went through the startup accelerator in summer 2016. We've raised around $2M to date in venture funding, and are currently profitable. We create cinematic online courses with some of the world’s biggest influencers. Our founding team has years of experience creating binge-worthy content -- and now we are on a mission to interrupt the online education industry by creating courses for the modern world that are as addictive as your favorite TV show.

What the job entails:

Jumpcut has a significant web presence -- not only on the learning platform we have for our 12,000+ active students, but also on dozens of different marketing pages and sales funnels we’re split testing.  We are currently undergoing a big re-branding, and have plenty of pages to implement and our platform to rebuild. You will be the engineer we will go to for all our UI / UX requests, and the person to own the UI responsibilities of updating our pages accordingly and rebuilding our Jumpcut portal from scratch.

We have a high standard for quality and believe most things can be improved. We’re looking for someone who can translate our designs exactly to spec or better, look at something a designer has passed off and point out the exact aspects of the design that you’d change, and lead a discussion on why.

What you’ll do:

You will be rebuilding our education platform and championing our mobile responsiveness experience, so we have many types of UI pages we’ll need you to work on. This includes everything from doing quick and direct translations from designs on one-off marketing pages (jumpcut.com/seminar), to more complicated tasks like implementing a completely new forum (if you’re a student of ours, we’re talking about (forum.jumpcut.com). Additionally, we have a ton of React work to be done on our platform -- but you’ll be the one to write the components only structurally with markup and style them.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with in-house and third party designers to iterate and finalize designs
  • Implementing designs and translating requirements to near-perfect spec
  • Working with other FE / React engineers to ensure we’re meeting our design standards
  • Ensuring the highest of quality (maintainable) code

Who you'll be working with:

This position will be reporting to our Product Manager, Catherine -- she’s great by the way! You'll be working closely with her, as well as the UI team, react engineers, and designers.

Tech Stack:

  • CSS
  • HTML, JS
  •  React.js / Redux
  • Node.js (koa)
  • PostgreSQL (sequelize)
  • AWS / Lambda / DynamoDB

Technical Requirements:

  • 5+ years UI/UX experience
  • Mastery of CSS is a must. This means you pour a ridiculous amount of effort into considering how you’re structuring your stylesheets, using variables with SASS, mixins, and coding.
  • HTML and JS must be shortchange for you.
  • Passion for clean, polished, design. We are looking for somebody who lives, breathes, and craves it -- more than food.

What we're looking for:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knack for being resourceful and self-starting. You don't wait for work to come to you, you go to work.
  • Ownership mindset. When you get a task, it’s yours now. Imperfections are personal insults, and you fight to get features live and implemented correctly ASAP.
  • Attention to detail. Be it testing all mobile screen sizes, or ensuring that QA does it to making sure every last detail of the design was noticed and handled.

Benefits, Perks, and Compensation:

We’ve got some pretty sweet digs, catered meals, unlimited PTO, and a full suite of benefits. Check out jumpcut.com/about for more information and to meet the team!

Compensation is competitive, and dependent on experience.
