You Aspire To: 

Apply process and power engineering knowledge in collaboration with the Control Software and Thermal Systems/Power Generation teams to develop models of varied fidelity to predict and evaluate plant performance in a variety of scenarios. Work with the Systems Engineering team to analyze the results of the simulations for engineering trade studies and inform technology decisions. Assist development teams to apply simulation tools to unique opportunities and interpret results to evaluate technology applications.

  • Create and utilize thermal energy simulation and modeling tools for system design and control.
  • Conceive of and execute trade studies to inform technology decisions.
  • Understand the needs of the end user and develop and standardize methodologies and visual aids to make the results of the simulation models easily accessible.
  • Develop and deploy interfaces to simulation tools for non-developers.
  • Interface with engineering, business development, manufacturing, and other teams to ensure coordination and communication throughout the company.

What's Essential:

  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics and process equipment (compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, etc.) Solid understanding of process controls and control theory.
  • Familiarity with code development skills including object-oriented programming, Python, Jupyter notebooks, and Git.
  • Data analysis and optimization skills which include statistics and probability.
  • Excellent technical communication for both technical and non-technical audiences, utilizing both verbal and visual communication.
  • Interested in working in process-oriented simulation tools such as Modelica, Aspen, HYSYS, etc.

Desirable Experience:

  • Practical experience implementing real equipment and solving real control issues.
  • Familiarity with Modelica/Modelon Impact.
  • Knowledge of solar thermal technologies.
  • Knowledge of material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with engineering cost estimation principles, including learning rates, economies of scale, purchasing power, and location considerations (e.g. labor, transportation).
  • Experience with curating/structuring databases to collect technical data for utilization in simulation models
