Job Summary: 

The Systems Engineer is responsible for developing a complex distribution center design. The successful candidate will have 5 or more years’ experience working with the application of material handling equipment including mechanical design, machine control, warehouse control software, workstation design and operational considerations. In this role, the Systems Engineer will define solution requirements, direct the development of solution design drawings and prepare material flow diagrams leading to the proposal of best-in-class solutions. A wide range of experience is required to enable the Systems Engineer to determine the optimal solutions. Specifically, equipment applications that include carton/tote conveyor sortation, unit sortation, warehouse control systems, ASRS, robotic palletizing/de-palletizing, AGV’s, and directed picking systems. Hands on experience, creative problem solving, above average listening skills, requirements analysis and material flow concepts are all essential skill sets.

Job Expectations: 

  • Utilize standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from concept to final design
  • Utilizes exemplary listening skills with internal stakeholders
  • Has a creative thinking approach to solution development
  • Collaborate with key project & solution team stakeholders by hosting design & technical reviews
  • Utilize creativity techniques such as white boarding, brainstorming, or mind mapping
  • Lead concept development and maintain accountability for results & deliverables
  • Communicate solutions through presentations
  • Devise new approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles
  • Produces material list of equipment, design of all special devices and Mechanical Engineering pricing.
  • Solicits, quotes, and reviews costs of equipment and services.
  • Works with Purchasing to manage the interface relationships with vendors and assists in evaluating the performance of vendors and subcontractors.
  • Provides a check for technical, cost and contracting aspects of quotes and serves as the major contact for intra-company departments and vendors. Schedules technical reviews and price review meetings.
  • Responsible for the quality of estimating on assigned projects. Maintains a complete set of project engineering records on all assignments.
  • Provides general guidance to a project support staff
  • Preempt potential problems and provide effective solutions in reaction to application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes
  • Display creative thinking in applying principles, theories, and concepts on a wide range of problems
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job
  • Maintain a commanding knowledge & competence in MHE solutions sets

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrates a good grasp of knowledge and principles of field of specialization and applies through successful completion of assignments.
  • Successfully applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Very good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and 3D Design
  • Proficient with Visio

Experience Requirements:

Requires a minimum 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination education and experience

Education Requirements: 

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering required.
