We are looking for a backend engineer to grow our Identity team and continue building our dynamic collaborative culture.

The Identity Team mainly focuses on authentication and account management (including external accounts), specifically:

• Architecting the upstream app funnel including authentication, registration, and onboarding
• Building features around user core services on top of Tinder user data, external vendor data, and media contents
• Building services for privacy/legal compliance
• Strategically supporting new user acquisition via globalization/localization

As a Staff Backend Engineer on the Tinder Identity team, you will have the opportunity to:

• Design, develop and operate scalable and resilient distributed services that run on Kubernetes or ECS to serve hundreds of millions of users around the world
• Evolve Tinder’s architecture to support multiple authentication flows and account management
• Work closely with client platform engineers to deploy exciting new Tinder Identity features
• Influence the roadmap and product development of Tinder App and services while deeply coordinating with the product team
• Mentor, collaborate and learn from experienced and passionate team members
• Collaborate with the Trust & Safety team to protect our users and Tinder itself

We're looking for:

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent with 8+ years of industrial working experience
• Excellent knowledge of CS fundamentals with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, software design, and coding
• Strong experience designing and building distributed backend systems handling high volumes of traffic with low latency
• Strong knowledge of backend architecture while knowing when and where to make tradeoffs
• Excellent knowledge and experience with a backend language like Java, Node.js, Scala, Go, etc.
• Able to mentor and develop junior developers
• Comfortable working with legacy code and improving it

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience in design/build user services and auth services
• Experience with cloud computing systems such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure
• Experience in design and development using NoSQL like DynamoDB or Cassandra
• Experience with Redis, ElasticSearch, Kafka, and Spark
• Experience with Agile development methodology and CI/CD
• Experience with Docker containers along with Kubernetes or ECS
• Previous user authentication funnel experience
