Ring is looking for a Database Engineer to help design, scale, and support the mission-critical data infrastructure underpinning Ring.
The engineering team works on a combination of backend development, databases, microservices, and is constantly developing new features. We all work for each other and have a an emphasis on helping one another. We get to solve complex problems all while using modern technology.

Responsibilities
- Work with engineering and business stakeholders to understand database requirements.
- Scale Ring’s data storage and processing infrastructure to accommodate an order of magnitude more growth.
- Partner with DevOps to automate database builds, deployments, and change control.
- Quantify and communicate the impact of software, usage, and infrastructure changes as it relates to database health.
- Evangelize current database best-practices and help developers avoid common pitfalls by working directly with them in the design, development, and code review phases.
- Implement best-practices for data access, governance, and lineage.
- Evaluating, benchmarking, and recommending the best relational and non-relational data stores.
- Work with the latest AWS database solutions for high performance and availability.
- Write scripts and tools to automate tasks and enable self-service of common data requests.
- Build APIs and data interfaces to allow for cross-team consumption of data by external Amazon teams.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database and application performance problems.
- Perform on-call rotations to provide support for urgent production issues
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A minimum of 2 years engineering experience in database roles working in mission critical, high traffic environments. Solid understanding of database fundamentals; relational and non-relational databases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience using source control and git.
- Proficient with SQL.
- Basic understanding of AWS, cloud computing, and distributed systems. Experience with database replication and sharding.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana or similar technologies
- Familiarity with stream platforms such as Kinesis or Kafka
- Familiarity with Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and SQL on Hadoop related technologies
- Experience integrating NoSQL alongside RDBMS such as Postgres or MySQL in a multi-tiered, globally replicated environment
- Having planned and/or participated in terabyte-scale data migrations
- Experience with Airflow
